If Fans Were Acquiescent

A nod to the die hards now and again, especially if subtle, is most appreciated. But the more anyone tries to "please us", I think the worse it gets.

Partially because we are a diverse group who cannot agree on anything. Partially because we love to complain, no matter what. And partially because I don't think that's a good way to create movies and television. You're trying to hit a moving target, rather than producing what comes organically.
That’s so true. I see it with DS9 a lot. There’s a good deal of TV shows that do it. For example, Family Guy made pretty much a whole “Stewie and Brian” season because fans loved them, but everyone got a little burnt out.

Stick to what’s working, if fans like it don’t push it!!

As "nerd rage" has never influenced anything in the franchise, a hypothetical lack of it wouldn't result in anything different.

I think one big influence it had was that Spock was made not really dead and then revived.

Edit: I think fan/nerd dissatisfaction also lead to Deep Space Nine introducing the Defiant.

I think that had less to do with any fan response than with Nimoy simply changing his mind about wanting to play Spock again, because he'd had a much better time filming KHAN than he'd had on TMP.

Plus, of course, the opportunity to direct the next TREK movie himself.

"Sure, we can bring Spock back . . . if I get to direct the movie." :)

Absolutely. Spock came back because of Nimoy, not because of rabid, mouth-foaming fans.

Here's Lenny weighing in on STAR TREK fandom ...
