Annika Hansen of course.
Annika Hansen of course.
Annika Hansen of course.
Then there ya go...
Mr. and Mrs Fred and Annika Chakotay
Although as i said and edited. a previous message to this.
Chakotay, if his name is FRED, that is Sooo uh... GAY...
Chakotay could have had a cooler name than just FRED for an Native American name...
Dakota Chakotay, Cheveyo Chakotay, even Cheyenne Chakotay... Something like that. Sounds more native american than FRED!
Wants to know what the hell the writers were thinking!
Nathaniel
Thanks Gorf. I enjoy your posts too, especially in the TrekLit forum. As to expressing myself, like I said, it's harder for me than you think.
^ I think there's some confusion over the mutliple meanings of the word "yanno":
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Yanno
I'm pretty sure teya meant definition #1 but perhaps it's best to avoid using this term just so there aren't any understandings.
kimc, who has just learned something new today.
kimc;2736831 I'm pretty sure [B said:teya[/b] meant definition #1
Maybe so, but that's not what I'm sensing here. Since English is not my native language, it's not always easy to express myself the way I want to;
there are still words I have to look up because I haven't encountered them before. For someone who was raised in English, my choice of words could be seen as simplistic (see definition #3), but it should not be the reason for making insults (if that was the case).

kimc was correct. Like her, I've never heard the word used in any other way than #1.
So, no insult was intended.
@Taya - it seems to me like you're constantly looking for a fight or maybe rather that you expect to be insulted/hurt by almost everybody, and so you're so up in arms that you end up reading insult where there is none - hell might even be a compliment as was the case with Captain Gandalf's statement about being spiritual. At least that how I read the tone many of your posts carry. I see a fight, not an interesting debate. Just my opinion. You accuse people of making assumptions, but you tend to do this a lot yourself. Oh well, moving on. You and I really have very little to talk about.

Okay, for those of you who are relatively new we do have a rule against personal insults that we call flaming. Please try to resolve any personal conflicts via pm. If you feel that a poster has insulted you then by all means hit the notify button and let a mod deal with it. Another option is to put a poster on "Ignore".
Undercover subversive insurgent.CHAKOTAY: Nothing. I just wanted to introduce myself.
JANEWAY: Oh. What did you say your name was?
CHAKOTAY: Chakotay. Actually, that's just what my friends call me. My employment file lists my given name, Amal Kotay.
JANEWAY: Well whatever your name is, I'm happy to help you any way I can.
EMH: Commander, you've spoken directly with several government officials. You could be recognised. CHAKOTAY: Isn't reconstructive surgery one of your specialties?
Chakotay, if his name is FRED, that is Sooo uh... GAY...
I think Fred is an awesome name. Fred Astaire, Fred Weasley, Fred Flintstone, etc.
However, this seems to be a thread less about names and more about words so I have an idea. We all come from a wide variety of cultures, backgrounds, jam preferences, etc. If somone says a word like "yanno" or "gay" or "pickles" and you're not sure if the intent is to be insulting or not why not a simple "What did you mean by that?" It could be they meant nothing by it and if it turns out they did then we can go from there.
Now back to my Saturday afternoon nap.![]()
What do you mean Fred Flintsone wasn't native American?
The guy was living in America 65 million years ago? How can you get much more native than that? Hell even if America was part of Pangaea at that point, so then obviously every one was American, French, Botswanaian and everything else simultaneously
One would assume that Fred's descendants would either evolve into native American type looking native Americans over the next 65 million years (Yes, Homo sapiens are only at most 400,000 years old, but hush.) or they immigrated off to some place in Europe to eventually be Italian or Greek.
Although this lark, it's not too different from the staple of the Mormon faith being that Jews, white, blond, blue eyed Jews, conquered North America 600 years before the birth of Christ and ruled over the native Americans like benevolent caretakers with Jesus after his resurrection for a thousand years.
