IDW TNG/DS9 crossover in 2019?

in the comments on the TM.com article they saying Bakula dosnt grant permission for his likeness to be used in comics

The article itself or the comments of the article? If the latter, I'd put as much stock in it as I do most speculative comments online.

Although there were many "Quantum Leap" comics...

Perhaps Bakula's later restrictiveness in the use of his likeness (though not an absolute ban, as we've established) was prompted by his dissatisfaction with how he looked in the QL comics. I thought those comics were well-done, mind you -- they were fully painted, as I recall -- but you can never know how an actor will respond to artist likenesses of themselves.

I agree. The art is quite stunning.

I was wondering if he has a stronger-than-usual contractual refusal on his image? I have heard that some TNG items haven't gone ahead because Patrick Stewart - and LeVar Burton - have stronger powers of veto on their image than other TNG cast, eg. there was no Picard figural ceramic mug in an extensive series of main characters and TNG aliens. Some comic art gets returned for redrawing if he doesn't approve of the likeness. Burton prevented a particular Playmates action figure from coming out because the headsculpt was wrong. Leonard Nimoy stopped a TMP trading card accompanying a Playmates figure simply because someone forgot to get the image cleared in advance.

Previous ENT cameos in IDW's comics have had to be negotiated case-by-case because IDW didn't hold a full licence for ENT stories - the ENT tale in "Waypoint" focused on Porthos! But if Scott Bakula's image is used, perhaps he is known to be likely to request tinkering? And that takes time.

BTW, before he was in Trek, Scott Bakula's image was actually used, as an homage, for a different, original character in a Trek comic.

But it did feature Archer, with a pretty good likeness of Scott Bakula, in 4 panels on the last page. With it being such part of the issue maybe they just got his approval for those 4 panels?

I've heard that the issue with Bakula and his likeness is his forehead. Namely, that he has more forehead than he likes, and he'll only approve a hairline that's not very Archer-like.

Weird. If he doesn't like having a high forehead, why doesn't he just do what I used to do and wear bangs?

I think oftentimes the hairstyle a character on a television show has isn't really up to the actor in question, with exceptions, of course.
That said, he doesn't often have bangs in his day-to-day life either, by the looks of it. I dunno, maybe he feels he looks even worse with bangs? I think he's a very handsome man, myself. It's funny what people get hung up on with regards to their own looks. Heaven knows I have my own hang-ups that friends assure me aren't issues. Ah, well. Humans are weird.

For the lead actor in a TV series not to have input into how they look would be rather odd. They're the star of your show -- you want them to be comfortable. (We've been hearing a lot recently about how Jodie Whittaker was involved in picking out her costume for Doctor Who, picking something that would be comfortable and practical to wear for several years as well as conveying the image and profile she was looking for.)
