IDW announces crossover: Transformers, G.I. Joe, Trek, Ghostbusters...

Re: IDW announces crossover: Transformers, G.I. Joe, Trek, Ghostbuster

^They could have tiny robots that perform vaguely analogus tasks, or have met bee-analogues on another planet.

Re: IDW announces crossover: Transformers, G.I. Joe, Trek, Ghostbuster

^ They do seem to take our organic-inhabited world entirely in stride.

Re: IDW announces crossover: Transformers, G.I. Joe, Trek, Ghostbuster

if you believe the info in the Tech-Specs biographies, Cybertron is also inhabited by Turbo-Foxes. if you go buy cartoon dialogue there are also glitch mice, bolt-bats, robotopossums, titanium moosebots, ant-droids and others...

Personally I think it sounds like it could be fun. I'll actually be disappointed if it turns out to be something like Star Wars' "Vector" storyline and Spock, Egon, and Perceptor aren't all in the same scene at one point. :rommie::devil:

Not sure if it's in a part of the OFFICIAL Transformers canon, but Cybertron used to be an Organic world before it became metallic through various and numerous events.

So the Planetoid did support Biological life at some point in it's past.

If I remember Beast Machines correctly, Cybertron eventually became a Techno-Organic World.

Re: IDW announces crossover: Transformers, G.I. Joe, Trek, Ghostbuster

^Maybe, but that life was unlikely to include bumblebees.

Re: IDW announces crossover: Transformers, G.I. Joe, Trek, Ghostbuster

They're a species with space travel that could have seen bee-analogues anywhere. What's there to think about?

Re: IDW announces crossover: Transformers, G.I. Joe, Trek, Ghostbuster

Why are you even trying to defend this? It's a cartoon made to sell toys. The toys, and thus the characters, have goofy names that are designed to be marketable. Trying to rationalize the name in-universe as if there were something remotely logical or plausible about the whole thing is so obsessively nerdy that the endless arguments about Trek continuity on this BBS pale in comparison.

That's one thing the Marvel comics got right in the very first issue. When the Autobots woke up on Earth, a scouting party was sent to survey their surroundings and they came upon a drive-in movie theater. They initially thought the cars were the natives and that they were assembled for some sort of religious ritual involving the "odd images projected on the large screen," and were baffled that they didn't defend themselves when the Decepticons attacked.

Re: IDW announces crossover: Transformers, G.I. Joe, Trek, Ghostbuster

No mention in the article as to which Trek will be used in the crossover. Anyone have any further information? OldTrek or NuTrek? TOS or TNG?

Re: IDW announces crossover: Transformers, G.I. Joe, Trek, Ghostbuster

So, contrary to the comment in the first post, Bad Robot wold have no say over this series.

Re: IDW announces crossover: Transformers, G.I. Joe, Trek, Ghostbuster

I didn't say that it was a good or bad idea...

Re: IDW announces crossover: Transformers, G.I. Joe, Trek, Ghostbuster

If Remans can have "Scorpion class attack fighters", a giant alien robot can be called "Bumblebee".

Re: IDW announces crossover: Transformers, G.I. Joe, Trek, Ghostbuster

Or Romulans can be named after Roman emperors.

Re: IDW announces crossover: Transformers, G.I. Joe, Trek, Ghostbuster

or planets named after Roman forge gods...

or aliens using the human term 'proplyd' as the basis for a cosmozoan's name...

Re: IDW announces crossover: Transformers, G.I. Joe, Trek, Ghostbuster

The usual fandom approach to TF names is to write them off as translator artifacts. "He-who-seems-unarmed-yet-survives-through-speed,-guile,-and-deceptive-strength-when-confronted" may be a fine one-syllable name in Cybertronian, but it's a bit of a mouthful when auto-translated to English. Same thing with "Exhuberant-rhythmic-melody-arising-from-seeming-chaos," and "Stealthy-hunter-who-pursues-his-prey-without-exhausion-or-distraction" and "Carapace-of-strongest-metal-which-defends-the-weak." Then, of course, there's "Best First" in Cybertronian so ancient that it gets rendered as Latin. . .

A better example would be how there are no worms on Cybertron --a Transformer visiting DS9 would be fascinated by the Bajoran Spacebridge.

They are defending it because they can and they have a passion for Transformers, if you don't agree with it, that's fine, but you don't need to insult them in the process of you declaring your differing opinion.
