There's an exchange between a captain who (possibly) will not return, and the first officer who is left in command. The captain tells them "They" (meaning the admiralty/starfleet) "will try to take" Enterprise/command/it "away from you. Don't let them." Or something very similar.
I think it's Star Trek, and Archer and T'Pol, but I'm not sure. Does anyone recognize the exchange?

Sounds like Kirk to Picard in Star Trek Generations to me.

"[...] Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while you're there, you can make a difference."

I know the scene, but it's not the exchange I'm thinking of. The one I have in mind of a commanding officer telling their executive officer not to let the admiralty take the ship away from them, if the commanding officer doesn't make it back.

I think Archer says it to T'Pol in 'Observer Effect' when he thinks he's going to die after being exposed to the virus in sickbay.

From "Observer Effect" script:

T'POL: T'Pol here, Captain.
(She has her back to the monitor which we can see Archer on.)
ARCHER [on monitor]: I take it you've been watching.
T'POL: I have.
ARCHER [on monitor]: Then you know you're in command?
T'POL: Yes, Captain.
ARCHER [on monitor]: I would like to think you'll stay in command. Don't let Admiral Gardner sneak in someone over your head.
T'POL: I'll do my best.
ARCHER [on monitor]: I know you will. I need to look after Trip now.

Is that what you looking for?

Me too! It would be a cool game, at that. Feel free to start a thread, somebody. The clues could be dialogue or situation.
