ID4..two?

A sequel would be easy. They didn't win the war at the end of ID4, only a battle. All they did was take out the mothership and support vehicles through a network exploit that would only temporarily took out their shields.

Now they have to face the survivors who are no longer vulnerable to that exploit. The war was just beginning and now they have some racist and pissed off aliens to deal with.

racist?:wtf: Are there different color aliens? Do they not have affirmative action, or is that wholly a human invention?

Its probably worth looking at the idea's they had for a third Stargate film, given that their story for Stargate 2 was reworked into ID4.

:brickwall::brickwall::brickwall:

NO IT WASN'T!

For fuck sake! ID4 was not NEVER planned as any Stargate movie. I don't know why people can get that through their heads.

The second ID4 was actually moving along a few years back and Will Smith said he didn't do sequels (Only really bad ones like Hancock and MIB) so that thankfully killed the sequel.

It's gonna be okay, brother.

It's going to be...okay...

(motions for The Trek Trek BBS Ninja Reaction Team to fire the tranquilizer darts)

As for a sequel, it's one of those things you seem to hear about every couple of years, like that prequel to Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs.

I'd rather not see it happen, personally.

You are 100% Full=on wrong! It is impossible for anyone to be more incorrect about anything than you are about this! The original title of ID4 was The Real Stargate 2 and why can't anyone get that through their stubborn heads!

What would they call the sequel?

Arbor Day

That's the title of the sequel to M. Night Shyamalan's 'The Happening.' They've decided to retool it into a more epic scifi-action film.

Good morning. In less than an hour, trees from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest forest battle in the history of plantkind. "Plantkind." That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by petty speciesism anymore. We will be united by our common roots. Perhaps it's fate that today is Arbor Day, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from root rot, blight, or Dutch Elm disease... but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, Arbor Day will no longer be known as only a tree holiday, but as the day the flora of the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night!" We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate Arbor Day!

Oh that's priceless! :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

Just watched this on my BLURAY over the weekend...still holds up.

Maybe the special effects hold up, but the story line and the unbelievable ending where a 40 year old captured alien ship can not only enter a home ship without question, but also has software so simple that an alien species can create a sophisticated computer virus.

The film is very much a product of its time. The sort of uber-nationalistic undertones that ID4 engenders just doesn't fly anymore. Really, had it not been for Will Smith, the film wouldn't have been the massive success that it was. It would have made money, sure, but Smith is such a draw (deservedly so, IMHO) that you could put him in anything and it'll make bank ("Seven Pounds" anyone?).

So you say...I think you couldn't be more wrong if you tried. And uber-nationalistic stuff is back on the rise again. The movie would be a draw now as it was then because...ta da...it was fun AND good.

A sequel, ID4, Robot, the humans use recovered alien tech to create robots that harass Will Smith.

The KING AND ID4, a human governess (Anne Hathaway?) becomes nanny to the alien king's offspring.

Eagle ID4, aliens vs. Shia Labeouf...now a requirement for every summer.

A prequel called the The Wizard of ID4 might work. Because using medieval tech (and magic!) to repell alien invaders would be some kinds of awesome.

The aliens had 30 city ships its very hard to believe all 30 were destroyed given the state of the worlds decimated military, i would think some flew away from earth and are possibly re-grouping and in contact with hiding surviving aliens on earth plotting another invasion..then again there was was the implication in the film that there ships could not function with out the mothership nearby and perhaps they all crashed when the mothership blew.

I think you are getting your timeline confused. Will Smith wasn't nearly as big of a draw when this movie came out -- he was still mostly regarded as "the Fresh Prince," and his only major movie role was in Bad Boys. In fact, rather than Will Smith catapulting this movie to stardom, this movie catapulted Will Smith to stardom. I remember seeing this movie in the theaters with some friends in high school, and heard "wow, he's really grown up since Fresh Prince. He's HOT now!" from several lady friends.

And if anything, uber-nationalism is UP since 1996 in the wake of 9/11 and the global war on terror. This movie actually probably would have done absolutely AMAZING at the box office had it come out around '03 or '04, with Will Smith at the height of his popularity and nationalist sentiment at an all-time high.

I liked this movie, but does every movie need a sequel? Some movies beg for a sequel. Somehow this one doesn't, for me. I'd prefer a Star Trek movie set post-Nemesis/STXI.

Now that I think about it Apple notebooks today are at least a thousand times more powerful then the one used in the movie so we should have no problems destroying any alien ships before they even get into orbit.

What would they call the sequel?

Labor Day
Arbor Day
Talk Like A Pirate Day

:techman:
If they bring back the original heroes...

Veterans Day.

That's a good one...but i would call it "Memorial Day".

Like someone said,it's probable that that some of the Alien ships escape.

So we build ourown fleet to go after them...but we wind up becoming like the original invaders, and start invading other worlds ourselves.

the "Memorial Day" calls humans to remember what happened, and what we're supposed to be about (which was apparently forgotten by most).

The movie can take place about 20 years in the future, and follow up on some of the minor characters (such as Adam Baldwin's character becoming a militant, anti-alien General). Will SMith can have a guest appearance flying in from a "lost" ship at the end (kind of a Rick Hunter & the missing SDF-3 type of thing -- from Robotech)

Also, i would have some filming in either Africa or India....since the invasion probably would have hit white people disproportionately, the new population should be a bit more international...

Though i haven't seen it, my idea sounds like the recent movie "Battle for Terra"???

^Now that makes the most sense, however 20 years isn't long enough to make a fleet and go around killing other worlds.

Not much time....but if you were to feature Will Smith's movie son, and the Presidents daughter, having them older than their 30's might be much.

Some of the ships could have been invaded and taken over that way (instead of completely destroyed).

And if we had the whole earth focused on this project...? i am thinking Macross/Robotech, where they built the SDF-1 in a decade.

i'm not saying it's the perfect plan, but it's a framework that is a bit different than the original
