I even found a picture in the London Illustrated News of cavalry scouts occupying Stonehenge itself. It was pretty cool.

Unfortunately, no.

It really should be, though--along with the rest of the London Illustrated News and the Graphic. Those weekly illustrated papers make fascinating reading.

The same is true for the Pyramids at Giza I suppose, though I've never been there.

As I recall the Sphinx is more or less staring at a KFC. Cairo hasn't quite swamped the pyramids but it's lapped right up around that patch of land.

As for Stonehenge, there's something kind of alluring an ancient monument. Something that goes way back through the mysts of time, and was already ancient when the Romans showed up.

Probably better appreciated without a crowd of hippies and solstice revellers though (we'll let actual Druids off).

It was ancient by the time any Druids showed up, too...

Yeah, that's a good point. And I don't know how much modern druids have to do with ye olde ones anyway (i'm guessing it's a case of "inspired by" kinda like how wicca relates to old paganism).

Yes the druids can claim no moral high ground since their entire philosophy is based on conjecture and bits of lore. Even if it approximates some ancient religion it came long after Stonehenge.
