I was curious if the line "Please Stand By" is used in the original series

I loved the new film about an autistic Trekkie called Please Stand By, which is also used by the lead to calm her autistic panic attacks. I use spock's line "Pain is a thing of the mind, the mind can be controlled" so I was wondering if they choose that in the film because it was in the show. I watch the show all the time but can't recall that being said, so I was curious if I missed it by looking for it too hard. I thought that it was when Scottie would use the Transporter? But I can't find a single scene like that, I have been rewatching TOS, and googled for clips, but came up blank, so I figured I would peek my head in here and see if this was a worthy forum topic.

As for "Please stand by," it's a common phrase used to ask someone on the other end of a radio or telephone call to wait for a message or a reply, or to advise the audience of a radio or TV broadcast to wait for a program to begin or to return after an interruption or a delay. It's been in use for a long time and isn't in any way specific to Star Trek.

As for why the character in the movie uses it as a calming mantra, I'd speculate that it's because it's an advisory to wait patiently while things are on hold, so it could mentally represent taking a break from a stressful situation and going to a quiet place.

Hi @RassDavadCaras ,

It is a valid topic, however, I'm not sure this is the appropriate forum. Miscellaneous is intended for non-Trek topics. Your last thread was real-world enough that I considered it acceptable to stay. However, since this one really is an inquiry on the show itself, I'm going to move it to the TOS forum for you.

Thank you for moving my post, and thanks for all the answers. I was hoping it was chosen more because it was a frequent phrase from the show, as an easter egg, but it seems they picked it due to it being used, but more because it makes logical sense and could also help other people with Autism. I was mainly wondering if it was specific enough to be an easter egg, so thanks for answering my question and accepting me here!
