I want to see those damn turtleneck sweater uniforms from The Cage & WNMHGB!

I became terrible excited when I first saw these photos of Michelle Yeoh wearing a gold turtleneck.... but then I realized that that she wasn't in costume. :brickwall:

My inital reactions were three:

1. They're copping those delightful waiter outfits from "Insurrection", which were not exactly well-received at the time either... but at least INS had gold piping to help soften the blow. I think that's what's missing. Nicer shoulder pads, though. (Seriously, I like shoulder pads. They add a nice sense of linear angle, but it's one of the few sartorial decorations from the 1980s that stayed for good artistic reason and style. Unlike bellbottoms and tie-die.)
2. Trite or not, I like the framing of the halo around her head

3. TNG did the same thing by having the cameraman on the opposite side of the plastic partition in order to capture the warp engine's blue light for numerous Geordi-in-Engineering scenes. It was a bit busy but nowhere near as screen-upchuck with that amount of numbers and graphing present. Par for the course, there's a reason TV has been given the moniker of "ADHDTV" for nearly a couple decades now...

Please stop accusing people of trolling and saying you'll ignore them. If you want to skip their comments, then just do it. Publicly pointing that out is the opposite of just ignoring their comments.

I see that as being polite enough to say why future comments will be ignored. They made unprovoked personal comments about my sense of humor, whereas all I did was address Ovation’s argument, which he then claimed was a joke and immediately contradicted himself by adding the notion of inconsistencies as perceived by the casual viewer, only to finally say I had no sense of humor.

What is that if not trolling a perfectly reasonable attempt to address the original claim about Shelby’s expected knowledge? Either it’s trolling or you’re openly supporting flippant discussion combined with personal comments.

Drop it, Boris.

Somewhere between The Cage and WNMHGB, Spock changes turtleneck uniform colors. I take it that he was promoted from Science Officer to First Officer (without a dual assignment as the Science Officer). I assume Spock was Pike's First Officer after Number One left, and Kirk inherited Spock when he took over for Pike. (Another option was that Pike took Number One with him to Starfleet Command when he was promoted to Fleet Captain, but I like to think that Number One got promoted on her own and not just riding Pike's coattails.)

A couple of points

- Does S2’s “If Memory Serves” not show that the Discovery writers believe the Cage happened as shown given the beginning of the episode shows the flashback to the original episode with those turtlenecks and all?
- does anyone have a screen cap from the end of Season 1, I’m pretty sure in the scene where everyone gets medals at Statfleet, Bryan Fullers proposed Cage style uniforms are been worn in the background. Does anyone have a close up of those?

There was a pic posted way back then that did have those uniforms showing, but I can't for the life of me remember which thread it was.
I seem to remember a discussion exactly about that also being included.

I don't think there are any close ups, just concept art. Baby blue (which are seen at Federation HQ), grey (worn in the early Saru multi-eyed makeup test, and a bit TMP-ish) and mustard was the original plan.

Everyone, call the medics, some new superbug strains of the clap and other cooties will be spreading to a town near you soon! :guffaw:
Oh thank God... I only get sex once a year now for my birthday.
I'm safe till next October.
:brickwall:

Personally I rather like those very comfortable-looking uniforms from The Cage (and, lest we forget, from Where no man has gone before), but must also admit to liking the 'Federation Blues' seen in STAR TREK DISCOVERY (not to mention the updated version of the classic 'Constitution pattern' uniform).

Personally I'm most fond of the classic Gold-Red-Blue aesthetic (is there another look that says STAR TREK quite so unmistakably?), but have plenty of room in my heart for other Starfleet Uniforms.

Having said that it WOULD be interesting to see an update of the Cage-pattern uniforms, if only to see how a modern costumer interpreted that particular aesthetic; oddly enough, this interest stems more from reading MYRIAD UNIVERSES - A LESS PERFECT UNION than from watching 'DISCO' itself.

Those are most definitely not the same uniforms from “The Cage” and “Where No Man Has Gone Before,” which is what the OP was referring to.

I didn't SAY they were, I said they were Discovery variants OF a turtleneck uniform that is the closest we have TO the original pilot uniforms. Never intended to say they were the same, but its pretty dang close and likely the closest we'll get to seeing the Pilot variation minus the flashback sequence from DSC's "If Memory Serves...".

The problem here is that people are still under the delusion that the ship actually looked like it did in "The Cage," then got refitted to look like it does in DSC, then got refitted again to look like it did in TOS.

On the other hand, it's not like we've seen this kind of situation before:

Gul Madred: Picard, all you need to do to walk out of this prison is admit that the shiny bridge seen here is the one Federation Captain Christopher Pike used on his first contact with Talos IV.

Picard: That is not the Enterprise bridge used during Pike's first visit to Talos IV. It looked like this photo here during the Starfleet-Talosian First Contact, the evidence is obvious to everyone. I don't know how or why it was changed or refit, and then changed back, but it was. Period. Facts are facts.

Bah! That's too convoluted.

Piccard: "There is ONE bridge!"
:nyah:

Madred: Just say it's one bridge, and you can leave this prison.
Picard: There are multiple bridges!
