I think we just need to accept the fact that this is a full reboot.

Yes, the producers said that it takes place in the prime timeline, but I honestly think they said that to make us feel better. The proof is in the pudding. Look at what we saw in the first two episodes: the technology is way more advanced than what we saw in TOS

No, it looks more advanced. My tablet computer looks more advanced than pretty much everything in TOS. A desktop PC in the 80's looked more advanced than everything in TOS.

Also unlike the ships computer, my tablet computer doesn't take ages to recall a line of text.

and all 25 houses of Klingons look exactly the same. There are no human-looking Klingons like there should be during this era.

Maybe they're just saying Enterprise isn't part of continuity. To be honest that's more likely given the temporal coldwar, the Romulans with cloaks and uber advanced technology, the Suliban (who were involved due to the temporal cold war), the Xindi (again, only involved due to the temporal cold war).

Prior to Enterprise there was no explanation for the Klingons different appearance, you just had to assume they had always looked like that (forgetting the time travel stories).

Also it should be pointed out that the Klingon empire is huge and it's to be expected that the powerful will get cured first. I mean ten years after TOS, all the Klingons looked "normal".

Enterprise is part of the continuity in both DSC and the Kelvin timeline. Shran has a starship named after him in "Battle of the Binary Stars" and the Xindi attack and crisis along with the MACO are mentioned in Beyond. I have no doubt the creators include ENT in the canon and backstory (as they should since this is the same continuity and timeline) but we have yet to get more than a couple of passing references to the previous series.

First half of Into Darkness is real good. Second half is atrocious and occasionally crosses over into unintentional Trek parody.

Agreed. There's a good movie lurking inside of it. But there's an argument to be made that it's not the worst of all the movies. I think there's a contender among the last two TNG movies.

Not even the second half, it that last act when Khan decides to turn on Kirk for “reasons”, Kirk and Spock reverse role play Spock’s death scene and Spock goes into a video game action scene.

There could have been some interesting material from having Khan in the movie. I would have loved him actually being honest with Kirk and only wanting revenge on Admiral Robocop/rescuing his people. Play on the audience’s expectation but surprise them.

I got a question. Would we consider a alternate universe a reboot or a prime universe show? Like the Kelvin Universe I got to say it could be counted as both. It's kind of neat way I hope they go. In theory the characters on "Discovery" could cross over much like Spock did in the Kelvin Universe if the show wanted to but at the same time "Discovery" wouldn't need to worry about making sure ever canon detail is right or have to deal with how the visual reboot doesn't make sense with the older show.

Considering the boatloads of money they made, not everybody was reviling them.

Kor

Making money and being hated later are two very different things. WWII was pretty largely reviled regardless of the millions that participated and the millions of dollars earned.

It may be a visual reboot, but if it takes place in the same continuity of the prime universe (and so far there is no reason to believe it doesn't take place in the prime universe) then it would not be a story reboot.

In that case, it would be a straight TOS timeline prequel, but simply have a different look.

Of all shows, it's too bad Enterprise gets that honor by dint of being first chronologically. But in a way I guess it really doesn't matter. All timelines are valid, all continuities real. Personally, I just try and go with the flow, especially considering the Star Trek franchise is fictional.

Careful, being all rational like that! You'll be branded a heretic.
