I think one of my students has a crush on me

Okay, so Tharp wants to get me fired. No surprise there.

Didn't see her today, which is probably for the best. The classes I did teach were full of unusually grabby children. I had about a half dozen hanging off of me at one point, and unlike with the other girl, the Japanese teacher was there to watch and... laugh, occasionally. Okay, I officially give up trying to figure out what is and is not okay for the children to do to me.

you wil figure it out in time, different cultures and all that, it'd be nice if you walked out with a list of Do's and Dont's to publish for us who want to do what you are doing

I teach in Taiwan and this sort of thing happens a lot.
I've had weird questions posed to me and the requests for e-mail addresses and so on. Just "mildly" ignore them, meaning do your teaching job, but don't talk to them too much outside of class time.
If she's really clingy she's likely like that with others and will soon focus on someone else.

This reminds of when I tagged along as driver/helper to a swimming camp two years ago. One of the kids was sick the first night so she slept in our cabin and we talked a bit. So naturally she got a crush on me. Seriously, now, when I'm not 13, 13 year olds get crushes on me.

I'm actually encouraged to talk to the students outside of class time. That's what the Japanese teachers want me to do, to encourage them to speak English as much as possible. I even eat lunch with them. It's all part of my job, and a situation with one student isn't going to make them not want me to do it anymore.

But I do ignore them when they ask sensitive questions. If they press me (and they often do) I say "it's a secret" in Japanese, which most of them find amusing enough to distract them from their line of questioning.

That sounds like a good way of doing it! I wonder if the word for secret sounds like the Chinese for it...mi mi?

I had a crush on my science teacher in high school. It was weird because I was his favourite student and he would let me write the lessons on the board and I always wondered if he was checking out my ass.

I know this sounds like I'm just being funny but this is true.

For some reason that reminds me ofa Fake News" routine one of my favorite comedians (Norm MacDonald) did on SNL when he was the anchor:

"At Virginia Commonwealth University, a professor is being sued following revelations that he spanked one of this students. It was the student's parents who first became suspicious when they asked, 'What kind of marks are you getting?' and she replied, 'Big red ones on my ass,' so..."
