I registered for the Harry Potter Pottermore site!

JK Rowling is starting a website (Pottermore) and they're having a 7-day promotion to become betas for it. Today was day 5. Limited time each day and I've been trying to some extent all 5 days. They just don't announce the time.

So now I get to provide free beta services for them, along with 999,999 other people. This is for before the site opens in October.

Yeah, I like HP books. Anyone else like them?

I love them Harry Potter books. Everywhere I go, I always take 1 or 2 HP book with me. I wish that J.K. Rowlings would keep the movie series going through their kids.

So, any word on what it actually is?

Not exactly sure, but they'll have games and such, to win/score galleons.

I'm currently re-reading the series, more slowly. I was the first one out of the bookstore with a copy of the book for the last 3 books.

Jk Rowling was smart and held onto the Digital Rights for the Harry Potter series.

Now that she's going to be self publishing, she going to be adding a mint to her already outrageous fortune.

So far, there's going to be an e-book store (with possibility of adding more items in future), a bunch of unreleased information about each book (an example so far detailed how Mr. and Mrs. Dursley met), and the interactive stuff you'd expect - a Sorting Hat quiz you can only take once, and an Ollivander's "get your wand" experience that apparently has over 33,000 distinct wand combinations. The new info about each book will be gradually released, starting with PS/SS, and will eventually expand to include all books. Also, depending on which House you're Sorted into, you get exclusive information on that House (IIRC, that meant more for Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, since she's written less about them.) From what I've seen, there won't be any fanfic or chat rooms on the site, although there might be a way to friend/message other people.

Overall, I'm most interested in the Sorting Hat quiz and the unreleased info behind each of the books. I was happy to get registered on day 4 (timeframes for days 1-3 was too early in my area of the world), and to end up with a username that wasn't so bad for a randomly chosen one. I'm hoping that eventually the site expands to include a wider range of content.

Hasn't it also been speculated that the long awaited Potter Encyclopedia Rowling refuses anyone else to publish will be uploaded on Pottermore as well? That's pretty much what I'd be interested in.

I hate to be cynical, but this seems like a way for Rowling to make more money while doing a minimum of work now that the Hollywood royalties are drying up.

Nah, the minute Jo Rowling needs a little pocket change she'll publish Harry Potter and the Broken Condom detailing the conception of James Sirius Potter.

You think I'm kidding? Think again. Since she's self-pubbing she'll get 100% of the profits. 100% of the profits on a new Potter novel will buy a lot of Swanson's Hungry Man Dinners.

True, but:

1. That requires her to break her promise of no more Harry Potter novels
2. That requires more work

I think she'll try to squeeze as much as she can from these first seven. They haven't been adapted to TV shows, radio plays or graphic novels, and I bet there's gonna be an MMO at some point, if not other games.
