I reached a milestone yesterday.

Yesterday, I celebrated my 40th birthday.

I really thought I was going to be scared and have some kind of meltdown or, kind of, realization. But it never happened. I found myself far more terrified when I turned 30. That felt like a much bigger deal.

Even during the days leading up to it, two things happened that really made me glad to be at this point in my life.

In my professional life (I work as a video editor) I've got about fifteen years of professional experience behind me and have been using everything I learned to make significant contributions at work. My opinions, experience, and skills are truly valued. When I was in my 20s, I couldn't wait to reach this part of my professional life.

Also, while I don't have anyone at my job report to me, I was working with someone (in their 20s) and they were helping me on a few video projects. They needed some guidance from me on how to proceed with what needed to get done. Very quickly, I remembered being that age at my first job and when I had to deal with higher ups who weren't very transparent with me on almost everything. With that in mind, I took the time to be as transparent and supportive as I could -- and it worked well.

Needless to say, I'm looking forward to this new decade.

Nice! I turned 40 this year too. It's weird actually being this old compared to how you think of it when you're a kid. I remember in Friends when they made a big deal about turning 30. I still just go and ride my skateboard around the carpark at work.

Happy birthday and best wishes -- but I gotta tell ya, it's in your 40s that you begin to notice your body beginning to....show its age. I'm within a few months of 70 myself, and the downhill slide is very fast at this point. If I've learned anything, it's to not put off things you want to do because there may never be a better time. That's life.

Belated happy birthday. This thread is making me feel young, I'm 35.

Whippersnapper!

Hope you had a good day.

The only advice I can give you is, keep working on your fitness. No need to be a gym rat, just regular walking, swimming or running, a little each day ort a couple of times a week, because as you get older, it's gets harder and harder, and you befon to reach blob status.

Good luck.

Always do. I tried other exercises, but, I absolutely LOVE walking. I haven't owned a car since 2005 and since I live in a very walkable city, no need to continue to have one. Additionally, I make sure I do about 30 minutes of walking each day. Plus I do some weight lifting at night as well.

I've been doing this ever since my teens.

Turned 49 on Christmas, so only a year to go till I hit the big Ha! Why?! Eeee! 5-0 and cross the half century mark, like some old rusted ship they keep pulling out of mothballs.

Welcome to the 40s. It can be scary and awesome at the same time. I hit the big 40 in February of 2020. Just as we all got on the highway to Hell.

Look at it this way....the older we get, the more like Red Green we become. I count that as a plus. :techman:

I've gotten to be more like Red from that 70s Show to be honest. :p

Well, I passed the 40, that was no big deal. 42 was because I had an uncle die at that age and he seemed so old to me at the time, I was just kid. So that made me think, now, wow he really was not old at all! :)
