Motorola Atrix and HTC Thunderbolt seem to be the hot ones right now
what carrier are you on?
you mentioned Droid X so . . . Verizon?

And in another month, those hot phones will be replaced by something newer, rinse and repeat.

I own a iPhone 4 and of course would recommend it. I can talk all about the features I love about it. Someone else can tell you why it sucks. However you need to find the phone that best fits you. You can go into a verizon store and play with the phones and find which one best suits you. Just getting feed back from others won't really help you in the long run.

I'm enjoying my HTC Incredible, can't recommend an I-phone, never had one

I'm the same. I only wish the Battery life didn't have me keep the phone plugged in all the time. Is there a way to expand the battery life on the incredible, or any smartphone?

Turn off the gps, wifi, turn the screen brightness down. That alone should double your battery life.

Actually in many cases leaving wifi on all the time can increase battery life (assuming wifi is actually available). It depends a lot on exactly what sort of reception your phone is getting.

I have a Samsung Focus and I love it . . . Windows Phone 7 is a valid alternative.

While we're talking about dead platforms... I kinda miss my Palm. :(
It is not dead. WP7 is younger than Android and is less fragmented than both iOS and Android.

I'll give you the fragmentation of Android, but how is iOS at all fragmented?

This is hardly Microsoft's first foray into the smartphone market. Needless to say, I'm skeptical of their ability to achieve any significant penetration.

that's what she said

regardless of how many people buy it it's still a damn fine operating system, and you have to admit Zune is far superior to iTunes.

I keep seeing the Palm parallels here. Except Palm was once popular.

webOS is also a very nice OS, but I couldn't justify buying a platform virtually no one supported. :( I went Android and am quite happy with it, though it lacks the maturity and depth of features of a Palm OS.

If you are really into the nuts and bolts of technology and love messing around with settings, doing custom tweaks and all that, go with Android. Otherwise, I would go with an iPhone.
