Most of the cartoons mentioned on this page I've never seen, and some I've never heard of. With the 80s cartoons, I was in my 30s and just saw them as feature length commercials for children's toys. I could never get into anime (having seen 8th Man in the 1960s). I couldn't deal with the huge eyes.

I have some 3d animation models that came with a program I bought, that are anime style. One of the first things I tried to do was change their eyes. Probably comes from a bad experience when I was 7 or 8. I think I was sick with a fever or something. There was a large picture of 12 year old Jesus facing the bed. Every time I blinked, I thought his head was turning from one direction to the other. Maybe it's why I stopped going to church.

And Ren and Stimpy was just trying to be super weird for an audience of super normal people who wanted to feel weird. The show isn't bad, I just cringe when I encounter it's inordinately dull fanbase.

I love how Ren and Stimpy was fine for my generation to watch at like 8 years old but now parents would totally not allow it, I think.

It's like a club of weirdness you get special weirdness scarfs for or something.. like football. Look at my weirdness scarf! I'm weird!! And meanwhile everyone is wearing the same dumb scarf.

I know there's something current that strikes me this way as well but I can't remember what now.
