I like her. She’s joking around, not being insubordinate. I’m not a fan of the haircut either.
We're going to criticize Ortegas' hair but let the Captain's "Johnny Bravo" go unquestioned?
Indeed not. It's ridiculous, superficial and shallow complaint about a character. A character that happens to have a sense of humor and is able to joke back and forth with her superior. That's not a bad thing. Most people definitely do not assume someone is "queer" just by looking at their hairstyle.
Reminiscent of Boma in TOS I think in lack of respect to Spock. Also, A Quality of Mercy did imply a darker future where she goes full on speciest. It's interesting to see if that was a one time thing or something the writers will follow up on2. She has an attitude problem and doesn't know how to speak to her superiors "Know when to shut up Spock" - can you imagine any pre-2016 character saying that to a superior??
Whether you realize it or not this whole post is extremely homophobic.

(never mind that the use of that word is considered a slur now-a-days)
Because she likes it.why would a girl have a bad hair cut in a tv show?
This. All of this.6 years in, so, military opinion.. we cut up all the time, some days its so much laughing, quips, barbs etc. that no work gets done. Its basically a family (insert Vin Diesel FAMILY Meme) , as I would think, being on a ship for years at a time would make it a family as well. Plus, its Pike in charge, I'm sure if another more formal captain was in charge, she'd change her attitude, but with pike's lais e fair attitude, he doesn't mind.
Plus.. Just look at Tom Paris, basically the same character.
Her character is a sarcastic, wise cracking hotshot pilot, I have no problems with her, her deminor, or her look. Honestly one of my favorite characters that i WISH would get more back story..
Unlike several times in TOS, Erica and Spock's interactions are always clearly from friendship. One of the things I didn't like in QoM was putting Erica in the Styles role.Reminiscent of Boma in TOS I think in lack of respect to Spock. The most likely reason is because of an underlying bigotry toward gay people. This are not my personal opinions, I was talking about how society/audience tend to make assumption based on how they see people at sight. society has a history of descripting what I will call stereotypical images of people that has become en-graded in people psyche were they make quick assumption.
Why do people think wesley does not make a good kirk? well part of the reason is that he does not have a jork-stock body like shatner has. he looks tiny compared to shatner in tos. it may be stereotyping but it does have some common call backs that most male lead in fantasy and science fiction always have a jock like build. In fact people like Shatner and Christopher Reeves were were the gold standard in defining that kind of male lead.
i will not call ortega queer until it is official but i have seen people on reddit and even here on bbs, assume she will be the queer character, which is interesting because my money was and still is on uhura, however I based that on a reality that trek is progressive and they have said they will employ lgbtq characters in lgbtq roles.
Ortega hair is bad though, I see people complaining about it on jammer trek website too. so the real question is why does she have a bad hair cut? why would a girl have a bad hair cut in a tv show? There has to be a reason why and I think in the case , it may be to ease off male gaze so women are not seen as too sexy than her been actually queer.
i never made assumption she was queer, however i made references to people thinking she is queer and maybe understanding why. there is a difference.
For Pike.Come on, Erica is Maverick with a space ship. (And if those words don't give you all the goosebumps why are you watching Star Trek?
Good.None of them are sexy really, I don’t mean they’re ugly but they aren’t given sex appeal like Troi, Dax, Seven or T’Pol.
My opinion stands. People put sex appeal on a god level status for a show. It's painful, frustrating and shallow.lol, it wasn’t a criticism just an observation.

Eh, we'll see. Real life has been filled with friends (and even family members, like my own brother) who weren't what they appeared to be, who did things I never in a million years would've seen coming. In my brother's case I knew him for 30 years and still didn't even remotely see some of the things he did coming, up to and including booing a black guy at comic-con for asking Stan Lee a question about increasing diversity in comic books (when I called out my brother on this, he said he was "fighting political correctness") and outright posting online that Ilhan Omar was a cult member in the weeks leading up to January 6 (our father literally had to plead with me not to refer him to the FBI in the aftermath of that horrific day). Not to mention hazing me and forcing me to write self-demeaning emails when I was ill and locked in a car with him. Oh, and my brother isn't some gangster, he's a licensed medical doctor.Unlike several times in TOS, Erica and Spock's interactions are always clearly from friendship. Agreed to all. And sometimes I feel like the only reason she gets called out is because she's a she who "looks" gay. Because quipping on the bridge is nothing new.6 years in, so, military opinion.. we cut up all the time, some days its so much laughing, quips, barbs etc. that no work gets done. I think it was alternate timeline version. Hopefully. But she may have trouble with him on a personal level and I think that kind of interpersonal conflict can make for interesting stories.Reminiscent of Boma in TOS I think in lack of respect to Spock.
