"I like the new movie better..."

...especially when their understanding of the comments appears very limited.

I suppose it's now my turn to volley a not-so-veiled-and-very-silly insult back your way. But I think I'll pass on that.

If you want to feel insulted, that's your prerogative I guess. But it is quite clear that you didn't understand anything I said and jumped in to just start rattling stuff off at me for no good reason. That's not an insult, it's just the truth of what happened. You didn't catch the straw man, misunderstood the meaning of the word "curious", and couldn't follow the continued analogy. That's probably good enough reason for you to "pass" on any further meta commentary.

Then we're done here.

Maybe you guys just need to start a "Star Trek 2009" fan message board, since any criticism of the movie gets your panties in a wad.

(and I even liked the movie, but I don't wouldn't want join a message board with criticism is shunned)

We're not criticizing the movie. We're criticizing people who hate criticism.

What a clever and witty comeback. Wish I'd thought of that. But apparently some think I'm not smart enough to think up such erudite banter.

I liked the movie, but would have liked it MORE if they'd gone one way or the other. Either make a movie for the Roddenberry universe or have a clean break and do a full reboot. They hybrid approach in my opinion did the film great disservice because it INVITED the issues of canon and consistency into the debate.

Completely agreed. I liked the new movie too, but found several story logic flaws, and feel exactly as you do. A straight reboot (or remake, whatever you want to call it) would have been the smarter choice.

I think Uhura played Spock pretty well as it was.
The only time he showed any backbone was when he told off the science academy and when he tossed Kirk off the ship. The rest of the time his spinal could have been made of rubber.

Since when is realizing you are wrong about something a sign of weakness? Spock was wrong to try and reassign Uhura to Farragut and he was wrong not to try and save Earth.

You are a cadet assigned to a starship for an emergency mission. You do not object to your assignment when you are expected at your duty station. If you have a problem you bring it up AFTER you have done your job. It was not a permament assignment. It was for one mission. If anyone else objected to their assignment, would Spock have changed it? If someone wanted to be assigned to the Farragut, should he change the roster?

Uhura had a right to be PO'd but Spock should not have changed his mind. He gave her a lawful order. Her duty was to carry it out and object later.

He was wrong in the how he would have tried to save Earth. He wasn't going to avoid trying. And the only reason he was wrong was because Kirk was always right.

That's your version of reality about 250 years from now, and it's not authoritative to anyone else but you.

^^ Right...because it is credible while what they did in the film wasn't.

No, it's his idea of a 250 year distant future "reality" that will never be canon, no matter how hard he wishes it was canon. Whether you like it or not, what's on screen is established. Nothing can change that. I'm sorry, that's just how it is. You guys are just going to have to get over it and quit being bitter. It's not real. It's a made up future, and the makers of that future, the only ones who have actual authority, have disagreed with your opinions on how it will be. Again, sorry, that's just how it is. All the angry diatribes in the world will not change the fact that Star Trek as you know it is not what you want it to be. You can move on to a different show, you can enjoy what you have, or you can accept the new changes, but nothing you say matters to those who create it and shape it. That's the way it has always been.

It happened in the move, that's true. It's on screen. That's true. NuSpock has no backbone, that's also true.

His girlfriend has him rescinding orders. Spock tells him that he shouldn't be helping his rece, who he says is endangered, instead he should go play second banana to Kirk.

Kirk doesn't ask him to be his first officer. Apparently Kirk didn't even have a first officer. Spock had to ask him for the job.

What else does Spock do that Uhura will tell him to change? Who's the senior officer anyway?

Considering that Spock apparently has the capability to change orders, and that he has his own mind, I don't see the problem. Welcome to a future military that does things differently than what you think they should.
