"I like the new movie better..."

Vic being there was just part of a string of senseless occurrences that were done just to be sensational. It's bad storytelling that has nothing to do with anything technical. But this is all beside the point.

I disagree that it was "bad storytelling."

It was a gag. A story joke. One more thing to fuck around with the very literal, linear and A to B to C brain functions of most of the Star Trek fandom. As Q once said, "I add a little flair, a little excitement to your lives and all you do is complain!"

Look, it'd be one thing if the DS9 writers tried pulling these kinds of zany things all the time. But the fact is they didn't. It was ONE gag in ONE episode that took place outside the main storyline and continuity. I myself don't have a real problem with it. In fact, I think it was a pretty bold choice to make, just to show how much more fucked up the MU really is compared to our own. It didn't need any explanation; And being that some people still wonder about it, still feel like they need an explanation for it TWELVE YEARS LATER probably suggests that it --the story point-- you know, worked.

I'm not even sure who you are arguing with. It seems to be thin air. I don't care what the explanation is at all, as I've already once said. I do find it curious that some would try and explain it.

And it absolutely was bad storytelling because their line of thought seemed to be along the lines of, "Hey, what can we throw into this story that's sensational?" From that, you get explosions, gunfights, space battles, lesbian kisses, and Vic is just on top of that. I find that to be a terrible, lazy way of telling stories, if all the story does is revolve around some "kewl" concepts. It's the worst possible approach, and the later MU stories were rife with them.

If it's so boring, why do you consistently read and reply to it?

I find swatting mosquitoes boring and annoying as well...but sometimes, there they are.

Are you one of those guys who goes camping, doesn't use bug spray, and then complains about the bugs?

What later MU stories? It was the last one they did on DS9.

Later as in the ones that appeared later in the series, which this one was chronologically last.

This doesn't even make sense. You're complaining about DS9 mirror universe stories that took place after "The Emperor's New Cloak" ... when "The Emperor's New Cloak" was the last mirror universe show they did.

Now, if you're talking about "In A Mirror Darkly" I guess that could make sense ... if your argument weren't predicated on the writing ... and the fact of the matter is that seven years went by and a vastly different writing staff were running things by the time "IAMD" was written... and even then, it was't bad at all.

Considering he quoted you before posting, and the subject of his post is your quote, isn't it obvious that he's arguing with you? Or can you just not handle criticism and instead resort to snarky comments?

I do find it curious that some would try and explain it.

Then you've obviously never posted on a Star Trek internet bulletin board before.

Are you one of those guys who goes camping, doesn't use bug spray, and then complains about the bugs?

Could you please tell me how that analogy has anything to do with Dennis's posting preferences, or are you just writing nutty shit for no reason?

Oh that's an easy one! Please permit me to refresh your memory:

Ryan8bit asked Dennis why he likes to read and respond to "boring and repetitive" posts from people who hate the latest movie.

Dennis, in an off-handed dismissal of those opinions he disagrees with replied, "I find swatting mosquitoes boring and annoying as well...but sometimes, there they are."

Ryan8bit then thought it was witty to ask, "Are you one of those guys who goes camping, doesn't use bug spray, and then complains about the bugs?" See how Dennis' mosquitoes led to the subject of bug spray?

Neither of these guys holds a candle to Cyrano de Bergerac when it comes to clever insults and put-downs, but the entertainment is free and I'm not one to gripe over the cheap laughs provided.

And here I was thinking that the dude was just posting incoherent metaphors because he was being a smartass. Silly me.

And people actually have the gall, on the TrekBBS, to disagree with other people's opinions, especially when those opinions are batshit crazy? Say it isn't so.

Hey! Don't you go messing with my free entertainment, friend!

No, it was a totally nonsensical choice to make. It wasn't even funny. If made as much sense as Farscape's alternate universe, where the actors swapped roles and each plays another regular character.

Besides, my original point was that to accept nonsense like Mirror Vic without question, yet whinge and complain about STXI's Delta Vega or Chekov's age or whatever is a massive double standard.

Ah, but you see I posted a solution that took the facts into consideration and even used previous Trek precedent. Do that with Delta Vega and Chekov if you can.

Do you actually hear these ideas WHOOSHING over your head?

Of course it was nonsensical. THAT WAS THE ENTIRE POINT OF THE GAG.

I think you're all fucking nuts.

I find swatting mosquitoes boring and annoying as well...but sometimes, there they are.

Give me a spray that works on lame-ass Internet whinging and I'll be the first to use it - by the case.

If it works, I'll buy a dozen. Cases.

Debate and discussion are worth having if the participants can be smart and interesting.

I see no evidence of that here:

This isn't the case with very much of the "criticism" (to elevate continuity nitpicking and narrow minded complaining by the use of that term) that goes on regarding this movie. That hating is simply boring and repetitive. :)

Simply chalking off anything you don't agree with as "complaining" or "hating" only accomplishes one thing: to provide exactly what you allege to dislike.

The "facts" () of what is said or seen in the movie back up "There's another planet named Delta Vega" and "The writers changed Chekov's age" very clearly.

One that fell utterly flat.

I'll say again: It didn't bother me any more than the clusterfuck of cack that was the DS9 mirror universe. I was citing it as an example of double standards of fans. Sorry if that upset you.

This doesn't even make sense. You're complaining about DS9 mirror universe stories that took place after "The Emperor's New Cloak" ... when "The Emperor's New Cloak" was the last mirror universe show they did.

Holy crap, I'll articulate this one last time.

The MU episodes that showed up later in the DS9 series are the ones I am referring to. "The Emperor's New Cloak" is obviously the last MU episode, but the decline in quality started as soon as they started milking the MU concept as a sort of no-consequences diversion from the main story around mid-series.

So "later" meaning the last half of the series, showed the kind of decline I spoke of. I did not mean episodes following TENC chronologically. Got it?

Considering he quoted you before posting, and the subject of his post is your quote, isn't it obvious that he's arguing with you? Or can you just not handle criticism and instead resort to snarky comments?

I asked who he is arguing with because he's essentially arguing with a position that I did not state for reasons completely unknown to me. I am not being any more snarky than you are.

Then you've obviously never posted on a Star Trek internet bulletin board before.
No, I have, and I find things curious all the time. I didn't say, "I can't believe someone would argue about that," but rather that I was curious, meaning that I would be interested in reading the explanation for entertainment.

Could you please tell me how that analogy has anything to do with Dennis's posting preferences, or are you just writing nutty shit for no reason?
Psion pretty much covered this. I was continuing the analogy just for fun and laughs.

Maybe you should try not taking conversations with other people that don't involve you so seriously.

Give me a spray that works on lame-ass Internet whinging and I'll be the first to use it - by the case.

I think that would probably just be an anti-internet or get-a-life spray. It'd be like trying to clean pee out of a swimming pool without draining it.

You just have to come to expect it, I guess.

Maybe you should try not taking conversations with other people that don't involve you so seriously.

And I'll say it again: If you seriously think things like that never happen at an internet bulletin board, perhaps you don't know as much about them as you think you do.

I think that would probably just be an anti-internet or get-a-life spray.

So by that definition, each and every person on this BBS would be affected. Including you and me.

Things like what, people getting all huffy about other people's conversations? No, I know that happens too. It doesn't mean I can't call people out on it, especially when their understanding of the comments appears very limited.
