Why is this thread in the "Star Trek Movies I-X" when all we're talking about is the new movie?
Well, the movie still sucks
and I've seen way better Star Trek material out there. If anyone thinks this new movie reflects what Star Trek is all about, well, you can keep it. If I want the original crew, I'll watch the original crew.
Then watch the original crew. We'll watch something entertaining.Well, the movie still sucks and I've seen way better Star Trek material out there. If anyone thinks this new movie reflects what Star Trek is all about, well, you can keep it. If I want the original crew, I'll watch the original crew.
Hmm. I thought all Star Trek was made to be entertaining. Then watch the original crew. We'll watch something entertaining.
.....No truth, just for you.

And all Fords are made to be good cars. Reality gets in the way though and a lot of Fords and Star Trek is pure shit.
Hold on. Let me just say this here since Devon doesn't think anyone understands what an opinion is.

And what's my opinion? The new Star Trek movie sucks. Anyone else want to waste more time on that?

Apparently you do since you're going to keep repeating it as you have non-stop for the past year or so.And what's my opinion? The new Star Trek movie sucks. Anyone else want to waste more time on that?
Look, I concede that Star Trek XI was a massive financial success, was regarded very well by most major film critics, and was popular with a large segment of fandom. It would be silly to contest this since you can read critics' reviews of the film and check box office numbers.
So what? I think this is wishful thinking on those who predicted the film's failure then started moving the goalposts on what constitutes a failure once reality intervened. That said, as I'm sure people are aware, movies that are hits and well regarded when they come out often are less well regarded at a later point, and there are many classics that weren't thought very highly of upon their release.
Historians?? Really?? I think you're reading way too much into your own theory. Simply put, this film was the first major hit movie for the Star Trek film franchise in nearly 10 years. Of course Paramount is going to do what they can do keep that momentum flowing. If the next two do well enough, Abrams and Co will have successfully added their own chapter to the Star Trek legacy, just like all his predecessors did.Historians tend to shy away from analyzing the long-term impact of an event or political administration when it is still too recent to be accurately studied. It is similarly futile to try to gauge the long-term legacy of a movie within a few years of what was a major release.
The facts seem to lean toward that conclusion.Maybe I and others writing in this thread and on this board are wrong, and Star Trek XI will continue to be thought of as among the best if not the best of the Trek film franchise, and exactly what Star Trek needed to contine in a succesful direction.
Not if the next film is at least as successful. But my feeling is that some years down the road, Trek09 is going to look like an empty summer blockbuster that pales in comparison to Trek movies like TWOK, TUC, and FC, and there's going to be a reaction of "so many fans went nuts over THAT?!"

Ain't we the pair?![]()
Number6 is definitely right about the role the next film will play in future perceptions of this one. Because if the next one is a huge hit as well, then Star Trek XI becomes the first in a line of succesful hits.
I know your posts are directed to all folks in this thread, just wanted to say I wasn't here predicting box office failure for the new film in '09. Despite my disappointment with the film itself, I'm glad that it did well enough to ensure the continuation of the franchise and ensure new the development of new works.
I am after all, a Star Trek fan, even if I dislike a particular film.
