I hope by then...

Let's say for the sake of argument that the future posited in Trek is a fact. First Contact, humanity advances, the Federation etc. So by the time of the 23rd/24th centuries what things would you like to see different? I'm not talking big things like no more homophobia ect, but more little niggling details. Things that you look at in the here and now and just think, "Geez I hope by then they've gotten rid of this." I'll post one of mine in a reply by way of example.

Okay, here's my example. I was thinking today about the military and musing about the tendency even today, even after the horrors of various wars and such, for some to try to justify committing heinous acts at the directions of others by saying that they were just following "orders". And I got to wondering if part of the problem is that in the military it's called a chain of "command" which to me sets up a predisposition towards blind following. I personally would hope that by the 24th century the military would grow a bit more aware of the power of words and change the term to chain of responsibility. To help foster the idea that blind obedience is not always a good thing.

I hope that modern capitalism has been replaced or at least heavily modified by a fairer and more just system that's more compatible with a democratic society and produces better results and greater happiness.

Also, I hope there are things like holodecks with really good A.I. And I hope that you can upload your brain into a computer or android body if you want to.

And I hope there's diet soda that actually tastes as good as regular.

Liberalism. While I deeply cherish it we clearly need something else to tackle our big problems and Trek implies, via Starfleet's quasi-military hierarchic structure, a world with far more collective discipline.
