I haven't watched Voyager in years

It's been a few years since I last watched Voyager -- until yesterday. At random I threw in a DVD and watched Someone to Watch Over Me, 11:59 and Relativity.

I was absolutely, totally, utterly amazed by the quality of the work.

Is that supposed to be a good thing or not? ;)

Tomalak, I remembered liking parts of Voyager, especially once we get based the awkward first few seasons. But those three episodes I found to be extremely good.

I've come to the conclusion that with time others like you will rediscover and develop a new appreciation for Voyager. I've been re-watching Season 2 myself and am finding even more things to appreciate.

Personally, I think the thing that makes Voyager great for "rewatching" is the thing that dings it's quality in the eyes of others... the lack of "continuity"

You can pop in an ep and enjoy it without worrying about what had happened in the previous episodes

That's true for the later seasons but the first two seasons they did the Kazon/Seska arc which I really enjoy - probably more so now then when it originally aired.

Even the first and second seasons had eps which you could enjoy without knowing all of the back story on every ep... Later DS9, as much as I love it, didn't have this option. If you started watching DS9 during the start of S6, you would be shocked to see the Trek franchise that deals with aliens!

After suffering through years of Stargate and other substandard attempts to mimic Trek, even the worst of VOY and ENT look great by comparison. At the very least, the productions are professional and competent.

I miss Star Trek on TV - any Star Trek. :(

I am able to watch Voyager two or three times a day, thankfully (although I don't indulge that often ;)). As well, I discovered some addictive multi-part fanfics that have kept me nicely entertained for the past couple of months.

I unfortunately have that disease where, on the occasions when I am able to watch VOY on SpikeTV, I always see the same 5 episodes. It's annoying.

But I really do love Voyager. I think it easily has the best characters of all the Trek series, even if the stories might occasionally be a little weak.

I had that problem with Saturday Night Live. The few times I sat down to watch I realized I'd seen it before!

you know, it's kinda cool to do away with Voyager for a while and then come back to it. You begin to appreciate it even more. :)

I know what you mean. I hadn't watched it in a while thanks to my nuBSG obsession but now I've been working my way though it again. I'm now up to Season 3 - we'll see if this time I'll be able to re-watch the second half of Season 7. (So far I haven't been able to since the show aired).

Seconded. I caught the odd episode of Stargate, but I've never been able to watch a whole episode of Atlantis for some reason or other - I'm just sort of bored a few minutes in.

I still watch the occasional Voyager episode, particularly my favourites, but rather sporadically. Some episodes have certainly grown on me with time, such as 'Warlord'; while others I've always liked - any of the Doc's better episodes, for instance. ('Someone to Watch Over Me' definitely applies.) 'Muse' would be another of the less obvious ones that come to mind.

I beg to differ - SG-1 was genuinely superb in it's earlier seasons, some of the best TV sci-fi ever, and was more consistently enertaining and fresher than much of VOY or ENT in terms of characters, stories and writing.

But I agree Voyager blows most of SG: Atlantis out of the water.

the actress who plays T'Pol in Enterprise was in a Stargate episode. She looked funny with long hair.

"Stargate SG1" is actually OK. Ther characters are not so good as the Voyager characters and the whole premise for the series is not as good as the premise for Star Trek.

But still "Stargate SG1" is acceptable. Decent characters and exciting episodes most of the time.

But I don't find "Stargate Atlantis" particularily good. While "Stargate SG1" had characters who I could relate to, "Atlantis" don't have that.

It was okay from what I saw. Pretty good; decent way to spend an hour when nothing else was on. Character-wise, the series was respectable enough: Christopher Judge had a Spock-esque gravitas as Teal'c, Michael Shanks had the requiste glasses to make him look smart even when spouting nonsense (something his brief successor sorely lacked) and Richard Dean Anderson was a likeable lead. I particularly liked that episode with Armin Shimerman, "The Nox", which bore more than a passing resemblance to "Errands of Mercy". Nothing I saw was knock-out best sci-fi TV ever; but it was definitely competent stuff in the vein of TNG but with a distinct spin.

Never really got into it, though. Can't say if it was a better show than Voyager or not, but I sure liked the Doctor more than any of SG-1's cast (well, except maybe that recurring character also played by Picardo ;)).
