Nope the mirror universe doesn't make sense because the series Enterprise established that the Terran Empire existed a hundred years before Discovery. That means that if Burnham were in the "evil" mirror universe, there would be no Federation. The Terran Empire ruled supreme. The ships would have the ISS- prefix, not the USS one. There would be no Delta insignia. All signs point to Burnham and Discovery originating in a universe which resembles Prime more than it does Mirror.

That said, I would be open to the idea of it starting in an alternate universe and accidentally jumping to Prime now. That'd be kind of fun.
