I have seen STAR TREK!

I've got a question concerning the canon of our regular Trekverse, specifically Romulus:

Is it mentioned on screen that Romulus has been destroyed?

-- The great "coincidence" mentioned in the review will probably generate a lot of discussion. Used for effect and used sparringly, coincidence is an important part of story telling, so personally, I don't have a problem with it.

It's axiomatic that, as a matter of plotting, the audience will forgive you one huge honking coincidence as long as it's early in the story. The reviews thus far give the impression that this one sticks out partly because it happens rather late.

True. And come to think of it, a big coincidence does start the movie. When Nero is thrown back in time, he just happens to confront a starship carrying baby Jim Kirk. So actually, we apparently need to accept two coincidences. One starts the story, one helps end it.

Last night, there was an advertised screenin' of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan that turned into a free advanced screenin' of Star Trek (2009) with the three writers and Leonard Nimoy in attendance.

And when he sat down, Leonard Nimoy was only four seats away from me in at the screenin' at the Alamo Drafthouse - South Lamar in Austin, Texas.

My full write up for the event will be at [link removed] - Jason Hunt got me on the list, reserved seat and all.

Anyone in Australia who thinks they were at the world premiere...y'all had just started by the time we finished in Texas, accordin' to the folks who would know!
Closed.

od0, there was already one thread about the switch in Austin, Texas, but I'm sure you saw that. If you wish to post a link to a review containing spoilers, you may do so in the pinned thread at the top of this forum which has been provided for that purpose. Any posting of discussion of advance screenings outside of the two pinned threads will be closed or merged. Any further posting of spoilers (or links to same) outside the spoiler thread by anyone may be warnable. Yes, I'm serious.
