I hate the Q character, but admit he was funny as hell in QLess

Jokes about DS9 and Benji were hilarious even by today's jaded standards.

Of course the old standard...."Picard never hit me"

"I'm not Picard"

I love the Q character, but found his appearance in DS9 to be pointless and unnecessary.

That exchange was good though.

Well half of DS9's first season was dedicated to pointless and unnecessary appearances by chars from TNG to bring over the fanbase. Q's a great character when he's in the higher power trying to help, goad humanity along mode. When he just shows up for general mischief, like in this episode, it gets old quick.

Hate is a strong word, but Q has never ranked very highly on my list of liked characters. He was alright in TNG and (like the Borg) overused in VOY. But his appearance in DS9 is probably his best.

Even Q knows better than having Benji go Sisko on his ass, one punch and he was never seen of again on the station. If only Janeway had tried punching him.

How so?

The one episode discussed had Q and Vash, then Lwaxana Troi in what would become a recurring plotline. That's it. They did do a crossover episode with TNG, but AFAIK Bashir was the only DS9 character to show up in it.

Picard in Emissary ring a bell? Not to mention Lursa and B'etor from Past Prologue too. Then Quark shows in TNG when they're after them in a later episode. For that matter, the whole O'brien character's being cast as a regular was probably influenced by giving TNG fans a familiar character.

So 4 out of 20 first season DS9 episodes feature TNG characters, aside from the O'Briens who were regular cast members. That doesn't seem like 'half the season' to me.

Wasn't Q only used like 3 times in Voyager, and the third time it was mostly his son? I wouldn't call that "overused".

Oh sorry. One out of five episodes for the nitpickers out there. Since 'half the time' is always such a precise and accurate figure after all. ;)

When Q is Q, and not a weak, pathetic being who has no powers (Voyager), then he's a great character.

To be fair Death Wish was good. Sadly good enough to warrant sequels, which yeah... bleh.

And one of Q's best episodes was Deja Q, where he lost his powers and Data of all people was teaching him about being human.

It was always nice to see DeLancie work and make a few bucks, but the writers didn't always use Q wisely in the post-TNG shows.

Still think's Worf's idea for proof of Q's mortality was a good one.

Eat any good books lately? ;)
