^I hadn't watched the show on TV for 15 years because I had it on tape and DVD, which is what I said. It had nothing to do with the effects, which is not what I said.
And I'm sorry that reality seems "bizarre" and "paranoid" to you, but outside of hard-core Trekkies, hardly anybody new is going to watch a show, that frankly looked cheesy when it first aired, in HD. It's not going to attract new viewers and keep it alive, which is the whole point. If the new airings don't attract new viewers, it will disappear because it will no longer be making sufficient money to keep it on, except late at night or on public access.
And yeah, whatever, like a previous poster said about the mis-use of the word "re-mastering", I concede that the word is not about the effects. But, if as you suggested, they only cleared up the picture and color, wouldn't that make the original effects look that much worse? I can't see only doing it halfway like that. Fixing the color and picture without "fixing" the FX will just make the episodes look like a brand new shiny car driving down the road with a different color door on one side.
