I got the strangest phone call yesterday

propita

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
So the phone rings and I pick it up. Nothing special there. It's a stupid recording. Again, nothing special.

But the recording says, "This phone call was made in error."

WTF?

Now "they" know where you live and when you can be "reached".............

Run. Run away right now.........

I guess you weren't the droid they were looking for after all.

I guess not.

I'm paranoid enough to wonder if someone was just trying to see if someone was home before they tried to break in. You know, no one home, break in. Someone home, don't break in.

If that were true, they probably wouldn't go through the trouble of having an automated message. They'd probably just hang up.

Yeah, I thought of that, too. I may be paranoid, but I have a couple of brain cells still rolling around in there.

But then you would have to wonder, if that were true, how did the potential robber get your phone number?

Odd.

Best guess: sometimes the auto-diallers sales teams use sometimes make more calls than can be handled by the live sales agents available. Usually this ends up with a "silent call", but I guess the recording would be a nicer solution.

I'm stumped.

Probably got it off some list or the phone book--where my name is misspelled. It makes determining junk mail easy when one's name is badly misspelled.

I don't like the auto ones that phone and say "Congratulations, you have won, blah blah blah, press 1 to" and so on, if i must get cold calling phone call i prefer ones with a human on the other end, that way i can have a bit of fun with them before i blow a raspberry at them and hang up.

Or the one, "This is not a sales call ..." Then why is there a recorded message? Instant hangup if I'm not worth speaking to directly.

But've I've learned to listen for about 5 seconds. Sometimes it's the DDS or doctor reminding me of a visit.

I'm a big fan of "Please hold for an important call..."

If its sooooo important, why isn't there a person on the other end? I really don't know what those calls are about-I've never held long enough to find out.
