I got a free iphone 3GS today!!

So Hubby and I were at Best Buy yesterday as Hubby was interested in upgrading his phone and BestBuy had some free. The guy we were talking said, “Tomorrow, for one day only, the iphone 3GS would be free. We got a call four hours ago but it’s pretty much a surprise."

“Tomorrow” was today, so we got there at 7 am, and at 8 am, we got a free phone. NO TAX either!!!! So a $500 phone with about $50 tax--all free. Now THAT’S a Hanumas present!! They only had 17 on hand, but were taking names as we were leaving.

Btw, I got the new phone and Hubby took over my 3G phone.

Well ... yeah.

But he had offered.

In fact, he had offered to buy me an iphone4 and he’d take my 3G, but I told him to save the money as I didn’t need it really.

Best Buy generally does this around Christmastime, in order to clear out stock of last-generation phones (and BB gets a cut of the phone contract, if one is signed).

I contend retailers and phone companies shouldn't be allowed to use the term "free" when an item comes with strings like a cell service contract. They should be using terminology similar to "for no additional charge with purchase of ...".

I also believe there should be regulations requiring a reduction of the "early termination fee" with every service payment at a rate consistent with the reduction of remaining principal for an ordinary loan.

They didn’t know about it until the day before. We just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
