At the time, I could tell that those early Voyager episodes were coming from some sort of philosophical background that I wasn't quite familiar with. I'd had bad experiences with ideas and people that could be labelled "New Age" and I sensed this might be part of all that.
Actually, the Indian stuff was pretty interesting, except that I was concerned that American Indian religion was now being incorporated into Star Trek as something "real".
I taped only the episodes that interested me on the last cycle of reruns...
Caretaker
Parallax
Time and again
Phage
The Cloud
Eye of the Needle
State of Flux
Heroes and Demons
Faces
That's where I am right now. I'm starting to see what the seasons 1-3 boosters here are talking about... but since I eliminated the ones that were boring to me, when taping, of course I'm going to get a better impression.
There's more life and energy, and inventiveness, and humanity, in this than in late Next Gen, than in late Voyager which I thought I preferred. Even more interesting camera angles. It wasn't what I wanted for "Star Trek". But it was the best that the people involved knew how to do, and it was the personal vision of the group who made it, which I need to understand and appreciate on its own terms, not in terms of my own expectations. I'm getting there.
