I finally saw Firefly!

I finally bought the DVD of the series Firefly, and just finished watching all of the episodes. I know, I'm a little late to the party.

Pretty good show. A bit of a different take on the spaceship-based show.

One question: I saw the movie Serenity so long ago that I don't remember it. How does it fit into the show's continuity?

Also, any other thoughts about this show? Any links to good web sites that have some good diagrams of the ship?

The movie, if I recall correctly, takes place about a year after the last episode. A comic book series takes place between the final episode and the movie to fill in some of the "gaps." (Namely what happened to Book and Inara.)

There's an official set of blueprints out there for the ship which you can likely find on eBay as well as orthographic cutaway posters.

Google Image Searching "Serenity Blueprints, Firefly" will turn up a number of links to scans of these images.

I need to rewatch Firefly myself. It's been a while since the twelfth time I rewatched it.

Serenity takes place about 6 months or so after the final episode.

Serenity (the film) takes place after the series and brings some closure to River's story.

And some closure to Wash's and Book's stories as well. :(

I finally got my wife to watch Firefly this summer. I watched it when it was originally broadcast but she wasn't interested. It probably didn't help that we had a newborn at the time. She absolutely loved it, and we're going to watch Serenity this weekend.

Serenity closes the book pretty well on the whole thing. Of course I would like more, but I think you can watch the TV series, then the movie, and feel like you've watched a complete story.

It's actually been such a long time since I heard anything about it, other than "it's good." So just going in looking for a "good" show, I'd say I got that.

I'm in the middle of re-watching it again and I truly appreciate how well it holds up. I think some of the camera shots while the ships are flying through space are quite interesting for a TV show. Like a few others have said, "Serenity" takes place after the end of the TV show and ties things up nicely but definetly left things open for a return to TV (if the movie had been "successful" enough) or to let fans make up their own stories.

I haven't been able to find any really good forums, i.e. still realtively active, about the show which is a bummer because people are constantly re-discovering it or discovering it for the first time and it'd be nice to have discussions about it.

A caught an airing of Arial a couple of weeks ago and started thinking about re-watching the series yet again. I think it would be my 5th or 6th time.

I just loved it. The characters are superb, and the universe very well realised. When I first saw the series on DVD I felt a bit sad about at how it ended so abruptly. But then Serenity was released and it brought a lot of closure to some key themes. And some tears too.

Ugh. Still my less favorite part of the movie is that. Although, tbh, Book was my least favorite character just because of the underdevelopment. I think had the series continued, his character was going to be fleshed out. Plus, I liked the developing relationship between Book and Jayne.

I really liked Book, though I agree that his potential wasn't fully realised during Firefly's short run. I thought what little we knew of him was really interesting, and provided a glimpse of something we would have had if the show had run for a few more seasons.

Now Inara was a bit dull. Space hooker! An interesting enough concept in that prostitution was now legal, but aside from that and her past relationship with Mal, she was just there.
