i feel lethargic

Within a few hours of waking up, I feel like I've worked a 16-hour shift of stacking wood or something (on unemployment benefits atm). I feel seriously lethargic. My BMI is about 26, though it's a huge effort to get out of my chair, and walk the 15 feet to the kitchen, and when I return to my chair, I *thud* down into it, heaving a sigh of utter exhaustion, followed by a few moments of catching my breath. I'm pretty sure I eat reasonably healthy, I get fresh vegetables 5 times a week. I really only feel like going out twice a week, and then only to do essential stuff like groceries. I sleep at least 12 hrs a night, so I'm sure getting enough sleep. Anyone care to speculate what's wrong?

You sleep for half your life? :wtf::confused:

Something is seriously wrong with you and, as well-intentioned as the Star Trek fans here are likely to be, you should probably consult an actual medical professional.

Well, for one, you need several servings of fruit and veg per day. I hope you're at least taking a good multivitamin. For another, you're sleeping WAAAY too much, so there's a good chance there's a sleep disorder involved -- when you see your doctor, ask about a sleep study. I have sleep apnea, so when it was at its worst, I could sleep 12 hours and feel like I'd actually only slept for 4. For three, lethargy can also be the result of a lack of exercise.

All good stuff to talk to your doctor about in the next few days.

There are a number of things that could be wrong... depression, anemia, lack of exercise and a healthy diet. Could be you're just not getting enough exercise and you're sleeping too much.

A doctor is going to want to do some blood work, so at least get that done.

I had the same symptoms about 6 months ago, my doctor thought I was "as dry as a chip" to the point where he thought I'd abused drugs (I must admit I was a bit dehydrated) - had some blood tests done (no idea what), everything came back fine. I'm guessing my doc would want different types of tests done? BTW, I've continually been suspected of being aneamic, blood tests have always come up negative with that.

Actually, I might want to go to another doc about this, with my current one, I actually have to tell him what the date is if I need anything prescribed (!). My old doc is actually quite depressed - another doctor at the clinic prescribed anything and everything, like it was going out of fashion, the entire clinic was banned from prescribing anything stronger than asprin, so the old docs' patient rate is down at least 30%. Maybe I should give him some work... BTW, his associate is even more useless than the current doc - how on earth can you get an accurate blood pressure result in timing it for 3 seconds? My friend, who is an ex-pediatrician (I get weighed and have my blood pressure taken every time I go there, as he insists) has me stay perfectly still for at least 2 minutes while taking it...
