I don't think this is normal...

Okay, so the other day I was chilling, reading Tom Clancy's Executive Orders. I was at the scene where terrorists attack the President's child at a daycare center, and I got pretty tense. All the sudden, I noticed my heart was beating really fast. Not like heart attack fast, but I think it was pretty ridiculous- I think the way my heart was beating would be normal if I've been exersizing for an hour, then was caught cheating on Megan Fox with Jeri Ryan. Um... am I having a health issue here? I had to stop reading for a few seconds and lay down for a few seconds.

Sounds like an anxiety attack. If they happen once in a while, it's nothing to be concerned about. If they happen often, you might want to talk to your doctor.

I'd hardly say that reading a Tom Clancy book is normal.

but yeah, panic attacks are common enough, but shouldn't necessarily be ignored. Try and take it easy, dude :D

Funny, if I was caught cheating on Meagan Fox with Jeri Ryan I think I would have an entirely different response.

Personally, I'd be wondering how the hell I landed Megan Fox anyway, and more importantly, that Jeri Ryan was sexually attracted to me. I would call this my "I would die a happy man" dream.

No, no, no, I need to be involved somewhere, and I'll be damned if it's "holding the video camera".

I've had it once in a while where my heart will beat harder for a few beats. It can happen to me anytime, so maybe it was a coincidence it happened to you while you were reading something exciting.
I don't believe it's anything to worry about. But I could be wrong.
