I disliked the final ep of Voyager

TOS, TNG and DS9 made the same and in many cases worse mistakes than VOY did but because they were more popular shows their mistakes were forgotten. AGT had time travel but there it was praised even though TNG had a ton of time travel.

The time travel device used in All Good Things was completely different to what happened in Endgame. In Endgame the time travel was the result of a decision by Janeway, thus we are left to explore why she made the choice to go back in time to save the ship. Upon exploring her reasoning I found it to be lacking.

In All Good Things the time travel was forced on Picard by Q, Picard had no say in the matter. Rather than just ignore the consequences of time travel, the entire point of Q's actions was to show the dangers of it so that Picard could explore the potential of reality.

Q said:
For that one fraction of a second, you were open to options you had never considered. That is the exploration that awaits you. Not mapping stars and studying nebulae, but charting the unknown possibilities of existence.

Show me one line in Endgame which is that exquisite. Hell, show me any line in Voyager that can match it.

You are right that TOS, TNG and DS9 had their faults, but the faults of Voyager were more evident due to the changing nature of sci-fi on TV at that time. Shows like Babylon 5 and Stargate had shown the potential for serialisation in sci-fi, and DS9 had shown that these elements could work in Star Trek as well. I kept on waiting for the writers on Voyager to see the full potential of their show but they never even bothered to try.

It wasn't entirely the writer's fault, Paramount kept on dictating that the show had to be episodic. I'm not sure if this story is true, but apparently Braga wanted Year of Hell to be a year-long arc, but the network wouldn't let them, so it was reduced to a two-hour show with a reset button ending.

I'm still not willing to let them entirely off the hook though because the same restrictions were forced on DS9's staff but they just ignored them. The Dominion war was supposed to last only 4 episodes, they let it run for two whole years. If the writers had really wanted to fulfill Voyager's potential then they would have found a way.

I disagree partly.

I found each ending stayed in tune with the theme of each show.

TNG spent 7 years exploring the knowledge of ideas beyond our human understanding, while Voyager took us for a journey within ourselves to discover what is humanity.

Q showing Picard an idea beyond his understanding gives us "AGT".
Janeway breaking rules to make her "family" whole keeps in line her whole speech about morals & ethics that started in "Caretaker" & concludes in "Endgame".

So as I see it over all, both themes of each show comes full circle.

DS9 in the end lost allot of money for Paramount being arch based. It was barely shown in Syndication, which studios bank on for returning profit. You can't show DS9 on TV out of order, so the casual viewer of syndication won't tune in for it. TNG & Voy were perfect for syndication because you can show it out of order and still keep with the general idea of what's going on.

Oh, the many reasons to hate "Endgame" and I say this as a huge fan of the show:

1) C/7 is icky
2) Time travel had already been done several times during the show's run
3) The borg have also been overused during the show's run
4) C/7 is icky
5) The disregard for the ethical ramifications of Janway playing with time (where the heck was Branson, anyway) were pretty disturbing.
6) Have I mentioned C/7 yet? It sucked.
Sorry, but what is C/7? Thanks..

Something that none of us want to remember. It is the last minute addition of the relationship between Chakotay and Seven. :scream:

Oh God that made be want to cry it was so bad. Janeway and Chakotay should have hooked up! Would have made much more sense if you go through the seasons and examine thier relationship.

True, but no man is going to wait seven or more years for one woman. Even Romeo could barely wait a day for Juliet. Besides, once she called Chakotay her "friend" that was the kiss of death to persuing that relationship.

Seriously, while is was super sudden, who else could Chakotay have picked? Be'lanna was married and pregnant, Janeway was a tease with her candle light dinners but no intimacy. Seven was the only one left.....................and she she was getting hot with a hologram of him. How much more encouragement did he need? Poor guy went seven 7 years without, he admitted he was so desperate he was getting it on with holograms himself.

Cut the brotha some slack.

I'm up to the finale of Voyager right now. Last night I watched Homestead and Rennissance Man and will probably watch Endgame tonight. It will be the second time I see the episode, with the first being when it originally aired. I doubt my opinion of it will change very much, but I'll still watch it.

Well you must have a stronger stomach than I do! I haven't been able to sit through it since it originally aired. :p
