I did not like how Reginald Barclay was treated in “The Nth Degree”

Don't believe him. I am known for my rational and practical opinions based in a very serious embrace of proven hard facts without getting bogged down in emotional runaway thinking. But you should still come to TNZ. Everyone is always welcomed. It is quite peaceful and tranquil their. You would maybe like it.:)

I tried doing that here a couple times, got threatened with the Banhammer.

Oh my. Gross considering she's so much younger then Deanna and Beverly.

I wonder if holodecks have protocols to stop you having a steamy night with an hot 19 yr old

Why would they? 19 is legal. And in any case, holograms don't have chronological age. No worries about meeting a girl in a bar who says she's 22, and you find out the next day she was a mature-looking 17 year old with a phony ID.

Haha oh yeah ok.... I thought 19 wasn't legal in the USA

18+ is universally legal. And I think 16-17 is legal if you're close to their age yourself.

The main things you have to be 21 to do in America is drink alcohol and own a handgun.

I don't think "The Nth Degree" treated Barclay with anything other than respect. It's definitely my favorite Barclay episode ever.

Pretty sure the holosuites on DS9 ran by Quark had no such protocol
Barclay probably used a holosuite but with some super vision from Counsellor Troi; I don't think she could resolve his sexual fantasies but find a common ground. He could use VR glasses and gloves in the comfort of his home.

I'd be curious to know how much monitoring of holodeck activity there really was. If you created something sick enough, would it know enough to report you to the ship's counselor? Or at least refuse instructions?

More philosophically, if holodeck safeties are in place to prevent users from hurting themselves, could someone potentially about to do psychological damage to themselves, via the unhealthy content they create, be prevented from doing so by the safety protocols, essentially censorship in the form of content filters for the "Well being" of the user?

Granddaughters, sometimes. Ugghhh! :barf:

I don't think they are that bad are they?

Just a lot of old guys here with these woman that look that young, probably mail order brides or philipino brides. It's still creepy

Why not? That actually would sound very reasonable given the nature of technology in Star Trek. For instance you couldn't conjure up a program where you are a teacher at a high school and you get to fuck students could you, as I think the holodeck would refuse to do that, and dob you into the ship counsellor.

I wonder if Worf used that program described in Rules of Engagement back on the Enterprise; the one in which he slaughters a village at the end, including children.
