I can't stand Trip

I like the way he says Cap'n. That's the only "mispronunciation" I can think of. And it's more of a contraction than a mispronunciation anyway.

It's not like he says nukewlur or anything like that.

Whether it is phony or not is an opinion. Not everyone in that part of Florida could possibly sound exactly like Trip. I've spent a lot of time in various parts of Florida, and not everyone I met sounded like Trip. Not to mention, everyone hears things differently.

You're right, not everyone could possibly sound like him, but some of us do.

My sister-in-law, for instance was raised in the same place as me but her accent is much more Southern sounding than mine because her father is from Alabama. My cousin who lives in Central Florida doesn't have nearly the pronounced accent as me because her father was originally from Pennsylvania. It varies, that's what happens...we get some little inflections and sayings from where we live and some from the people who taught us how to talk.

My point was that it's not out of the realm of possibilities for someone from North Florida to sound like Trip. I didn't say we all do, but some do, hence, his accent is not phony considering where his hometown is supposed to be.

ETA: Shatnertage, I'm with ya...that mispronunciation of "nuclear" by someone who shall remain nameless drives me INSANE!!! There is no letter between the C and the L! Sheesh!

So your argument isn't that he mispronounces words.. You just hate the south.

Wow, you're a genius. I really do hate the south. What are you fucking talking about? It seems like you're just trying to start a right and reaching for anything, regardless if it makes any sense or not.

The only thing I didn't like about Trip was how he died. That entire episode was Targ manure. Especially Fat Riker.

When someone from that area says it doesn't sound phony, its not an opinion. They'd be the ones who'd know rather than some tourist from Kansas.

You seem to be a lot of backstepping. Careful or you might trip.

Honestly, it's not phony. This isn't even about me being a hardcore Trip fan who's defending him, it's just the truth. As I said, I'm from the area Trip is from and he sounds like my accent (you can ask DAK, I talk to her on the phone regularly) and my family and friends that are from the same area...

Yep, she does talk like Trip. Right down to the "y'all". Southern but not so thick or country music star twangy that you can't understand a word she says. And I'm from much further up the east coast than her hubby's family is.

I know Kitkat can pronounce that, I heard her just this afternoon!

What are you talking about? First you say that Trinneer's accent is phony and people don't talk like that, refuted by a couple of posters who actually come from that area. Then you make the claim that he mispronounces word, a claim you haven't backed up with anything, unless "I just don't like his accent" is your only proof. I may not be a "genius" but at least I am good company and if you ask me, it looks like you're the one "just trying to start a right," whatever that means. I'm glad you are at least making an attempt to make sense, unlike the rest of us.

Okay, kids, let's all just chill.

Trinner said in an interview that, as filming began, was not told which part of the South Trip hailed from, so he chose an accent that he assumed would work. Several episodes in, he found out Trip was from Florida. He was as irked as some of you appear to be, but he rolled with it because that's the nature of the job sometimes.

Trip is a fictional character from a TV show. Not really a big enough reason to gallop off on these off-topic squabbles, or even to take issue with a poster's typos, mmkay? Kindly refrain from directing your ire at the South or Southerners or the way real people talk, or their IQ, since there are folks here from those parts who might get riled. Get back to good healthy Trip-hating, alrighty? Thanks.

I ate some pecan pie once after not eating it in 20 years and it was disgusting. I almost passed out from the sugar.

This does remind me though that pecans are rarely seen in Australia. I now must seek them out!! As part of my "eat the food of your fan loves" policy.

I love pecan pie! We had a pecan tree in our backyard in Texas when I was a kid. Bags and bags of pecans to be harvested!!! And lots of pecan pie to eat. These they're store bought. :(

I'll pass on eating catfish though. :barf:

I love almost every single Southern food you could name EXCEPT for pecan pie and catfish. EW!!

I eat REAL seafood! :bolian:

And pecan pie is basically just too sweet for me. I like pecans themselves, just don't like that pecan pie is so sickeningly sweet. :p

I'm a Northern boy through and through, but I love pecan pie. I know that it's pretty much just a layer of pure sugar between a pie crust and roasted pecans, but I don't care. A warm slice of pecan pie with a cold glass of milk...

When it comes to southern food/soul food I'm all about beans, cornbread and mac & cheese. (Mom makes greens too, but I dont like them :p ) Or my Mom's fried chicken with homemade biscuits. ( usally with rice and green beans)

i hate trip

i hate his accent (dont mind southern accents at all, just fake ones like his)

i was happy when he died pointlessly, damn im happy they killed him off lol brings some peace to me regarding how much i disliked enterprise

^^ From the posts I've seen in this forum over the years, there are plenty of people who like Enterprise but don't necessarily care for Trip.
