lol Trip the worst char on show, you are kidding right???? he is like the best, I even like him more then Archer (dare I say that LOL)

to me the char that had the least impact on enterprise show was Mayweather and I was not too fond of Hoshi they just kind of got in the way and were just there for some good reason like fly the ship or Hoshi translate which made them look very very important.. not

anyways that's my view and everyone has their ideas and thoughts but come on Trip worst???

Nobody in Florida has a southern-style accent? Everyone sounds the same in Texas? The "you should sound like the state you're from" argument doesn't fly, now that people move about the country and the world at will. A hundred years from now? It will matter even less.

Maybe Trip's mom was from Alabama. Maybe he went to school in Houston. Maybe he's just comfortable with the drawl and spread of that particular way of speaking. It's just not that perplexing to me, and certainly isn't a dealbreaker.

FWIW, most of the Florida panhandle is considered south Alabama. The accents and culture there are very "deep south", as opposed to the palm tree, white sand beach Florida that everybody always talks about.

ITA. I'm jumping in here because I'm from Florida (Tallahassee, in the panhandle for those who don't know). EVERYONE from Tallahassee, as well as the whole panhandle, speaks with a very Georgia-ish accent. Not exactly like, but much like the one trip speaks in ENT. It was definitely made clear in ENT that Trip was from the panhandle of Florida. I have a lot of family in Central Florida also; some of them speak with an accent similar to mine, some sound more like people on tv (pretty much American with no real evidence of a specific region), I think it's because we get people moving to Florida to retire from all over the country and accents will kind of blend as you get down to the more touristy areas.

I get so sick of people assuming that everyone in Florida sounds like they do in Miami (ie, a Northeastern US accent), people in Miami sound like they're from NY or NJ, for the most part. Not everyone in Miami, mind you, but most of the ones I've met from there do.

In response to the OP's question, no, I don't agree. I loved Trip. Mostly due to Connor's amazing acting. I've seen him on other shows as well and I think he's fantastic. I didn't like the pure character assassination in the ENT finale but I digress.

So having a Southern or rural accent makes you sound like a moron?

Sadly, I think a lot of people think that way. I get subjected to the prejudice when we visit my husband's family in NJ. Now, most of his family is perfectly nice to me (I tend to be very bubbly and get along with almost everyone) but his brother's wife seems to really think I'm a moron because I speak with a Southern accent. Not only is it annoying because I pick up on the passive aggressive bullshit pointed towards me from her, but it's sad and ironic because she's an English Lit major and I LOVE to read classics and am very, very well read. Most likely she and I would have a lot to talk about but it's clear that she thinks of me as a backwoods redneck because of the way I talk and has never given me much of a chance. I gave her several chances before I gave up and said, fuck it, she's not worth my time or effort. I know plenty of rednecks but, trust, I'm not one.

I'll probably regret this, but why is Trip a "redneck"?

He really isn't. I was exaggerating. I grew up in Kansas so I was surrounded by people that talked like morons. I just find Trip to be real annoying.

Did I say that? No. I have plenty of friends that have southern accents, but they don't mispronounce every word that comes out of their mouth.

What sort of things did Trip "mispronounce?" I'm not following the logic train.. Maybe you should stop typing with an accent.

I'm wondering the same thing. I would have to go through the transcripts, but I'm pretty sure Trip never uttered so much as an "ain't." But I could be wrong.

Even the way he said "son of a bitch" was pronounced correctly (not "so'm'bitch" like some southern dialects say it).

I'm just going to stop this argument right here. I find Trip's phony southern accent to be annoying, that's all. Let's not get carried away.

Honestly, it's not phony. This isn't even about me being a hardcore Trip fan who's defending him, it's just the truth. As I said, I'm from the area Trip is from and he sounds like my accent (you can ask DAK, I talk to her on the phone regularly) and my family and friends that are from the same area...

Whether it is phony or not is an opinion. Not everyone in that part of Florida could possibly sound exactly like Trip. I've spent a lot of time in various parts of Florida, and not everyone I met sounded like Trip. Not to mention, everyone hears things differently.
