I Believe Lucy Was Really The Master?

So I was watch LOTL again thinking about how the Master could return and it got me thinking that perhaps Lucy was really the Master and the Master that died in the Doctors arms was a clone (or a shape shift swap) here is my reasoning:

- The Master makes a clone (aor a shape shift swap with lucy, see below) of himself and then disguise himself as Lucy somehow. We have seen the Master disguise himself tons of time in the past (mostly with the 5th Doctor stories).

- It's not that Master did not want to regenrate in the Doctors arms, he could not because he was a clone of some type. RTD shows us in the next season two (maybe as hints) examples of Timelord copies that can't regenerate with Jenny (although she did come back to life) and Doctor 10.2.

- Lucy was always with the Master (clone). While she may have been real at one point (as the reporter talked about her past in TSOD) she may have been killed and replaced. Her dilusional state may have all been an act to gain sympathy from the Doctor and his companions (and us the audience :) ) .

- Lucy was the one that shot the Master, while it may have seemed natural because she was an abuse victim, if she was really the Master she shot the clone so there would be closure and the Doctor would not find out and he could slip away to fight another day (which he will later this year) . Also, it was very convienant that the body was burnt (although that was the Doctors choice I guess) so there is nothing left to examine.

- A woman with red finger nail polish picks up the Masters ring. So was it Lucy that picked up the ring?? hmm i think so. Perhaps the ring is what maintained the clone and kept it under the control of the real Master.

Instead of a clone it could be some type of shape shifting swap techology where as the Master took Lucys form but was still a Timelord inside and Lucy took the Masters form (and was sill human inside) and was controled telepathy through the ring. Once the tech was turned off the Master would look normal (John Simm) again.

So why would the Master do this when it looks like he had everything under control? Well he has been down this road many times before only to be surprisingly beaten, so it makes sense really.

The scene where the Master directly looks at the Doctor on the airport strip as the Jones' arrive, she isn't there. Same as when the Master teleports to the cliff and the Doctor follows.

Also, although your theories are entertaining, I'm afraid that due to recent spoilers about the Master, we know that Lucy isn't him. Plus the Doctor even said, he will know who the Master is when he sees him, he came in to contact with Lucy on more than one occassion, he would have known it was really him.

The whole woman with the red nail varnish was just something RTD put in so future writing teams would be able to bring back the Master in some form or another. Speculation has ranged from the Master had regerated in to his ring to the Rani.

I'm in the Rani camp. I'd even go so far as suggesting that she's the one that perfected the fob watch technology and that she kept the best part, that she could 'hide in plain sight' as a human, detectable only as a human, but with her Timelord personality intact. I wouldn't rule out the ring being the v2.0 of the fob tech.

Oh i like that...good stuff.

Now all we need to quench our Rani love is the Rani actually turning up.

is it just me or is Rani to Classic series fans, the ex gf you remember and would not mind seeing one more time, despite the fact she crashed your car, and ran off with your cat?

^ LOL that's a good metaphor!!! I've been curious if Lucy was supposed to play some bigger part in the Masters grand plan as well. I do believe that it was her that picked up the ring at the end of the episode as well but I don't think she was the Master. I think that the Master wanted his own companion just like the Doctor has had over the years he's been on Earth for. Perhaps Lucy just realized the importance of the ring and that the laughter we heard was for dramatic effect and nothing more.

it would seem odd, if the hand picking up the ring, was just ignored, and TBH I dont totally hate the theory that the Master is hiding out in Lucy, or even in the ring itself.

You've never heard of me in drag, doesn't mean it never happened.

And for the record I look stunning in white thigh high heels.
