I am starting to really warm up to TOS

I used to really dislike the series, and very much preffered TNG, but the more i watch, the more i start to love all of the stories. Some episodes i have seen really have made my imagination run wild and most of the time the stories are very good. I wanted to thank the people on here for convincing me to give it a second shot. :techman:

That's how I was a long time ago. It's only going to get better as you notice more of the nuances.

Same here I started watching TNG and then every other series but I love TOS it's now my favourite. I don't know why I'm so much in love there to many things that are so good about it. I've seen all three seasons and watched them over and over again.

I've learnt and learning loads of new information about TOS it's great as a series it only lasted three years but my word it put this series and franchise on the scifi map.

:bolian: I logically agree

It's several shades of awesome, yes, but I'm biased. TOS was all we had when I was growing up...

It's always the chemistry between the characters (and cast - despite some internal bickering). That always comes through during the original show.

The lack of excessive "Political Correctness" also helps me to continue enjoying a show I've seen since I was about 2-3 years old (yes, first run...I'm old...).

I don't hate -most- of the later shows. I still can watch TNG, but it's not as easy, DS9 can still be fun and I can even watch some of ENT, but not a minute of Voyager...

Same here, Star, but at 3 to 5 years old, for me. I have never truly warmed to any manifestations of Trek after TOS....I bet I haven't watched 8 epidoses of TNG or DS9, and have never watched Voyager or Enterprise...call me biased, but these all seemed (to me) to be pale imitations of the original Trek theme.

This may be sacrilegious to some, but I find the 2009 Abrams reboot to be quite refreshing...almost like TOS was when it 'took off' with fandom in the mid-Seventies; the potential is for it to be a unique part of the franchise, in and of itself....irreverent as it may seem to some. :techman:

Yes, it is possible not to like everything that has the name "Star Trek" attached to it, and be a dedicated fan...;)

I loved TOS as a little kid, but when TNG came along I stopped watching it because it suddenly seemed really dated and cheesy to me. I still loved the original characters, however, and continued to revisit them in the novels. After TOS got remastered, I decided to take another look at the series and fell in love with it all over again. It is now tied with DS9 as my favorite series. TNG actually seems more dated now than TOS. Both imagewise and storywise TOS seems much more fresh and vibrant than TNG.

I was 4 - 6 and the first TOS episode I remember watching (at 6) was Elan of Troyius; and I was hooked. (Was always a fan of space travel. I was in summer school in 1969; but my mother let me skip a day knowing I wasn't sick so I could watch the first moon landing and walk on the moon live.

I can't say much of anything positive about the new movie, couldn't even try to watch it in a theater.

Didn't like the style, not a fan of JJ Abrams (at all) and can't stand "Shaky Cam" or "Len Flare 'o rama" and the whole story struck me as a bit more amateurish than anything done for Voyager (shy of the insanely stupid wrestling episode).

The only thing I found vaguely positive about it was getting a younger generation to give Trek a shot...

That's why the newer kids won't give TOS a second-look...because it's a dated, old man's TV show...and the new take on the franchise has given it a more hip, sexy kick-in-the-ass feel...;)

TOS is my fave, followed closely by DS9 and ENT. Enjoyed all the films for various reasons.
Hated the music. Loved the trousers.

Great to hear this... always get a kick out of seeing a person develop appreciation for TOS, when previously they looked upon as 3rd rate. :)

One of the reasons TOS works is that it appeals to children and youth and adults, particularly those young at heart. ST09 will age very quickly because of its thoroughly juvenile approach.

I remember watching the corbomite maneuver when I was younger, and being really hooked on it. But every time I would switch the TV on 'the corbomite maneuver' would always be on.
(I probably just missed a couple of episodes and the BBC just cycled back).

I thought that TOS was just this one episode show where all they did was talk to thus christmas tree lights ball and drink with some weird kid. It put me off for quite a while

Really?

I hate Star Trek 2009 as much as anyone... but I don't feel the need to bang on it in a positive thread about The Original Series.

This is about celebrating TOS and how it hooked another fan forty years after the fact.
