I am sick of "special companions"

Oh, "Castrovalva" was cool. It's especially interesting if you're familiar with the marvelous nonfiction book Godel, Escher, Bach: The Eternal Golden Braid by Douglas R. Hofstadter, which Christopher Bidmead was clearly a fan of, drawing on concepts from it in the serial.

I do like Escher.. I have a puzzle in clear acrylic of that picture of the never ending staircases. It's done in layers with perspex sheets between the layers. Love stuff like his..
 
I actively dislike every story mentioned by the two of you. Particularly The Leisure Hive, which after the wonderful Shada, was all flash and no substance. And Castrovalva... mathematician porn, but not a good story, at all.
