I am going to do what I haven't done in 4 years....watch Nemesis again

GalaxyX

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
I have the 10 DVD box set, and Nemesis is the one movie I've never taken out of the box, surprise surprise :guffaw:

But I will give it a chance again, since I'm stoked from watching ST IX 3 times now

Stay tuned for my report :p

Re: I am going to do what I haven't done in 4 years....watch Nemesis a

Ok, the intro was decent. The powerdive into the Romulan Homeworld was great!

The size of the Senate didn't bother me. What did bother me is that, they see this green energy ribbon thing open up, and......do nothing! Just sit there and stare like imbecils. Do something you morons!!! Run!! or at least get a tricorder and scan the stupid thing!! Something!!!

The wedding scene is painful to watch. On one hand seeing the TNG crew again is a happy moment. On the other hand, the whole scene is so forced. I think particularly because WE don't feel the happiness of the Riker/Troi wedding.

I think they should have left the wedding 'till the end of the movie.

Brent Spiner has WAYYY too much make up!!! and the movie style contact lenses look horrible. They should have kept the TNG ones with the lighter yellow. The "shut up Data" joke was uncalled for and make no sense other than a cheap shot at the character.

Continuing on.....

Re: I am going to do what I haven't done in 4 years....watch Nemesis a

Man this wedding scene is taking forever!!!! Worf drunk was another cheap shot at the character, and not funny at all.

On the bright side, as a musician, I recognize the Korg DynoPiano Electric Piano sound in the Jazz tune :)

Re: I am going to do what I haven't done in 4 years....watch Nemesis a

Ok, every attempt at a joke desperately needs to get deleted from this movie.

And the technobabble makes me gag: "Since positronic signatures have been known to only emanate from androids such as myself, it is safe to theorize that this signature is an Android.....blah blah blah!!"

All they needed to say was:

Picard: "Positronic Signature? What could it be? Any ideas Data?"
Data: "I am not sure captain. It's possible it could be another android like myself, but could also be something unknown"

Re: I am going to do what I haven't done in 4 years....watch Nemesis a

The whole Argo scene was pointless. They already flew the damn shuttle into the atmosphere! Why not just...you know....land beside the destination spot?

They turned Data into a caricature of what he was in the series. In the series, his comments were usually genuine attempts at understanding human nature. Here they just seem to be for the purpose of showing that "The Android is nerdy!".

Data goes "It appears to be a robotic arm" and Worf says what we all want to say: "NO SHIT SHERLOCK!!! How many megaflops did it take you to figure that one out??"

Re: I am going to do what I haven't done in 4 years....watch Nemesis a

though I'm not a fan of the movie I will defend some things you said:

Almost all best men usually deliverr their toasts in the manner Picard did, slightly condescending, looking for a quick joke, even at the expence of someone at the table, at least until the actual moment when the glass is raised. Stewart actually nailed it in this scene.

I laughed at the roboti9c arm joke, one of the only times I did. To this day I'm not sure if I really liked the joke or not, but I did laugh.

The pieces were scattered about.

Re: I am going to do what I haven't done in 4 years....watch Nemesis a

Hmmmm... B4. Really unnecessary. But they could have made it work better with the following changes:

1. Give us a throwaway line about Lore, and perhaps do some kind of scan to show us that his programming is much more primitive, on the level of a child?

2. Get rid of the annoying distortion when B4 talks.

3. Have the Android not have a name perhaps? Let Data choose something not so stupid?

4. Data's smile when he tells B4 that they are brothers brought back some good memories from the series. They needed to play up this angle more in the movie. Let's see if they do. First time in the whole movie that Data seems like the Data we know and love from the series.

Hmm I dont know if you should watch it right after seeing the new movie. Well hopefully you still enjoy it.

Re: I am going to do what I haven't done in 4 years....watch Nemesis a

LOL the first joke I laugh at so far:

Janeway: "How would you like a trip to Romulus?"
Picard looking surprised: "With or without the fleet?" :guffaw:

I always thought the wedding scene was one of the best moments in the movie. The shut up joke was great because it was a casual gathering with a bunch of good friends drinking and clebrating. It was the kind of thing Picard would never say on the ship on duty but fits perfectly at the reception.

Plus it has some of the only times any character moments made it into the movie. Most of the other ones were cut.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not against cutting out the wedding scene. My problem is that the movie is asking us to care about the marriage of these 2 people with nothing to back it up. The only people that might enjoy it are fans of Riker/Troi.
What they needed to do what something like this:
1. The intro was fine.
2. Have 2 starships, the Enterprise E, and the Titan. Have the Titan be a Galaxy Class Ship under Riker's command. We get to see Riker command a ship AND us that love the Galaxy Class (and hated its destruction in Generations) would have been pleasantly surprised.
3. Have them go straight away into the mission to Romulus. Have them have all their conflicts and stuff. Perhaps put Deanna in mortal danger and have Riker save her? Or put both in Danger and have Picard save them? Then at the end of the movie, Riker and Deanna realize they need to do something they should have done ages ago, get married. Data doesn't die, and they get to have their wedding scene at the end of the movie, and Data can even sing his geeky song. The movie would have ended on such a positive note it would have rivaled First Contact in quality.
Just an idea :)

Re: I am going to do what I haven't done in 4 years....watch Nemesis a

Wow!!! 27 mins into the movie and we're still waiting to see some action here!!

I got an unintentional laugh though:

"52 Disruptor Banks! 27 Photon Torpedo Bays, Primary and Secondary Shields!"

I was cracking up!! :guffaw: And people think the 3 Nacelled Galaxy Class is fanboyish

Re: I am going to do what I haven't done in 4 years....watch Nemesis a

The whole Shinzon introduction. Wow, it took like 10 minutes to introduce himself.

All they needed to do was have Deanna sense that Shinzon believes he is like Picard. As a bonus, Deanna would have gotten some lines to say. "Oh my God Captain, I can sense that Shinzon truly believes he is you!". And have Shinzon say "Indeed Counselor Troi, because I AM like Picard" then he could have stabbed his hand and given the knife to Data for DNA proof.

Re: I am going to do what I haven't done in 4 years....watch Nemesis a

Well, I gotta stop watching for now since I have to go to bed.

The movie is not bad but it desperately needs some action. There's way too much talk, most of it nonsense.

Will continue tomorrow :)

Ya that is one of the biggest problems of the movie. It is very drawn out in places. They had alot of action scenes but they just took to long to get to and most of them were in like the last half hour of the movie.

Re: I am going to do what I haven't done in 4 years....watch Nemesis a

I just watched it because I saw this topic and thought why not.

I still like this film a lot. I've read through several of the many hundreds of Nemesis hating threads here, and I still like this film. And if you don't, get over it, really.

I think they already established that Riker and Troi were getting back together in Insurrection. Their relationship was introduced in the very first episode so this was a culmination of 15 years. I'm not a Riker Troi fan so to speak but I thought it was a great way to open the movie with the wedding scene. This was meant to be the final movie so it was good to show the sense that the characters were getting older and moving on with their lives. It gave a since of finality to the whole adventure. It's too bad the whole movie didn't live up to this but liked the opening scene in the romulan senate and then the wedding scene.
I wish they had included more of the character scenes that were deleted, I thought many of them were good even though the movie is already very slow.

Re: I am going to do what I haven't done in 4 years....watch Nemesis a

Ok I'm back. Continuing where I left off:

Shinzon and Picard have dinner. That whole scene was so heavy handed, with lines like "You can see I'm you, you can tell by the eyes, can't you?". It was like the story was desperately trying to tell us "Shinzon is Picard!!!!!". Enough already.

And I realized another huge problem with Shinzon. Ever since his first appearance he's been a cocky little bastard. Worst of all, it's an "evil cockiness". I'm not sure what Tom Hardy was aiming for with that acting style, but it certainly didn't go with what the movie was trying to tell us (that he envied Picard and his life). It just isn't coming thru for me. All I see is a bald whiny kid with too much firepower for his age.

I think they already established that Riker and Troi were getting back together in Insurrection. Their relationship was introduced in the very first episode so this was a culmination of 15 years.

Exactly my point. The scene will only be enjoyable to select TNG fans that were Riker/Troi fans. If you weren't a Riker/Troi fan, the whole scene would feel like a waste. HOWEVER if the movie has made us care for them in some way, even non fans would have been cheering at their wedding if it had been done at the end of the movie.

Re: I am going to do what I haven't done in 4 years....watch Nemesis a

LMAO!!!!!

I just saw the whole sex scene. It was pretty bad, but I usually don't like sex scenes in movies (there's enough porn out there for people, I don't need it shoehorned in my movies). The mind rape was creepy and pointless.

But what made me burst out laughing was Picard "Permission denied. If you can endure more of the assaults you'd greatly help us". Pardon me but I must stand up and go HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH :guffaw:  What?????? you're asking a rape victim to endure being raped again for the benefit of your Captain??? Who wrote this shit?? Obviously someone with Troi rape fantasies apparently. This whole scene was just uncalled for :wtf:
