Both Where no man has gone before and Devil in the Dark are two episodes I wouldn't have thought to see in the Top 4.

WNMHGB is one of my faves. Maybe my #1. The one that has me scratching my head is Devil in the Dark.

WNMHGB is one of my faves. Maybe my #1. The one that has me scratching my head is Devil in the Dark.

It's a very popular episode, doubtless due to its strange premise and overall atypical presentation (with most of the episode taking place in the mines and almost none on the Enterprise as most of the sets were IIRC redressed). It's got a monstrous rock beast burning holes in people just because it wants to defend its young. Throw in a Spock mind-meld and you've got a fan favourite. When it comes down to it it is one of the more unique and memorable hours of the show.

It wouldn't make my top ten list, and I am carpet-bombing it at present... but I get the appeal. Now WNMHGB? That's confusing. How did it get this far exactly? I like it better, but not by much. It's certainly a step down from "The Cage", which got eliminated a while back.
