Hunger Games casting news

Only just started reading the books (after the casting announcement of Lawrence), and frankly I've had no problem imagining her as Katniss in the story. In fact the weary, mature-beyond-her-years performance Lawrence gave in Winter's Bone fits so well with the description of Katniss that it's hard for me to NOT imagine it now.

Granted she did look a bit old in that movie, but that was probably just by design. In other pics and on talk shows she appears to be much younger. And I'm sure, like with any actor, she'll have no problem losing a few pounds for the role beforehand.

I thought the same thing. It's almost the same role! They even both hunt squirrels for their younger siblings because their father is gone and their mother is incapable of taking care of them. Talk about typecasting!

I do think it would have been more interesting to have younger actors in the main roles, though.

Slashfilm just posted a rundown of the most important uncast roles:

I really like their suggestions of Zachary Quinto as Cinna and Malcolm McDowell as President Snow.

^ Oh man, just based on his role in Zombieland alone, I think he's a perfect fit for Haymitch.

I'm just hoping the rumors about Lenny Kravitz playing Cinna are wrong.

He's just... not even remotely how I imagined Cinna.

Wow, that's quite a transformation. Looks nothing like her Winter's Bone character, but she's still got that same tough, world-weary look in her eyes.

Donald Sutherland's been cast as President Snow, according to Hypable.

I can see this, although I hadn't imagined him in the role prior to now (On the other hand, the only actor I've really imagined as a character is Mary McDonnell as President Coin.) So far, I'm liking the casting decisions overall.

Nice! I hadn't thought of him, but I think he's perfect for the role. The only major casting choice I'm not loving so far is Lenny Kravitz. I thought his acting was fine in "Precious", but at 47, he's quite a bit older than I imagined Cinna to be.

Yeah Lenny Kravitz is the only casting decision I question, but everything else has been extremely solid indeed. "The Hunger Games" is in my top ten most anticipated films for next year.

Finally finished the first book, and it'll be interesting to see how they adapt it, considering how most of Katniss's outward actions are simply an "act" for the cameras, while the truth is revealed only through her thoughts (such as her deciding to play up the romance for the cameras, or trying to manipulate people into sending her gifts).

I wonder if they'll have to resort to a little bit of narration to get that across. She spends most of the time alone, and she can't exactly talk to herself with the cameras everywhere. lol
