Humans as villains

The way future humans have been portrayed in the new series (dunno about the old) makes me think that they function similarly to the Doctor's usual foes. They're an expansionist, violent race that grows to dominate and/or replace all other forms of life. Surprisingly, the Doctor admires them for it, mostly. Why is that? Is it racial pride, because he's half-human? Do Time Lords traditionally protect the course of human history because we, possibly, grow up to become them? Did the Doctor ever take on a force of us, or just random individuals? The (new) Day the Earth Stood Still (I know ) got me thinking in this direction...

Hmmm...I don't think Doctor Who has ever portrayed the human race as a collective virus (much as you describe it or imply). There have certainly been many, many corrupt individuals he's faced for various reasons. So, I'm not certain where you're getting that impression.

And, as for The Doctor being "half-human"....are you just trying to start something, or do you just not watch the show?

It's the little things. He commends humanity's survival skills across the span of the billions of years he's encountered them throughout, but it's gotta more than that, they're all he ever meets in space. And I don't get the idea that we've changed, like in Trek, so as to deserve a central role in galactic affairs. So I just figure that we keep being the warlike apes we are today. It's almost as if, in erasing all threats to humanity, the Doctor made them unstoppable. Why is humanity so important to the Doctor? I was just wondering if there was an explanation for it beyond "this show is being filmed on Earth."

In his 6th and 7th incarnations he showed us a lot of contempt, actually. He thinks we're brilliant and monstrous in equal measure, at least that's the impression I get.

Unlike many other conquering species, Humanity is often protrayed as being more diplomatic and merging with other societies and species. That's probably why he's okay with it.

The fact that they seem to take on a leadership role is fine, too. Someone has to be in the lead role.

^See I still argue that Harriet Jones was right and the Doctor was wrong about that. Or at the very least it wasn't as clear cut as he suggested it was, and his revenge against her was somewhat needless (creating a power vaccuum that probably made the rise of a certain Harold Saxon all the easier)

actually its not hard to see why Harriet fired up on the ship, however it would be easier to swallow had she not been present when the Doctor defeated the sycroax

Well, I think we're all aware that human society can change. Earth, in its expansion across the galaxy, might go through some 'bad' phases (i.e. being a ruthless empire) and some 'good' phases.

In fact, isn't it supposed to be the case that:

Doctor Who and Blake's 7 take place in the same universe? Having the Terran Federation exist at *some* point in history, doesn't mean it can't fall, and be replaced by a more benevolent government. I find this very likely, even in DW.

had the Daleks actually appeared in Blake 7, I might buy that, as it stands I dont buy that yet.

I will say that the Doctor kind of deserved the torture the Master put him through in "Last of the Timelords". I mean if he hadn't been so self-righteous in getting rid of Harriet Jones for DEFENDING HER PLANET Saxon never would've been able to take over and terrorize the place for a year.

So he got rid of a "Golden Age" that he knew about, and got himself mega-aged and tortured for 1 year by his archnemesis.

Nice job, Doc.

had the Daleks actually appeared in Blake 7, I might buy that, as it stands I dont buy that yet.

Yeah, if the invaders at the end of S2 had been Daleks that would have clinched it (although they could have been alt universe Daleks I guess)

Given the huge range of time that Who covers it isn't impossible...unlikely we'll ever see any kind of crossover since the Beeb don't own the B7 rights anymore.
