Human Potential

Saying there's a hump here is completely unwarranted.

There has been no species that aspired to Sargon-like powers, then seriously and realistically strove for them, and then failed to achieve them. At least, not on Earth, and least not any that left any evidence.

Nor has there ever been a need for species on Earth to possess Sargon-like abilities in order to survive.

We're very most likely the first species ever to arise on Earth that possesses even just the concept of godlike powers, and we certainly have enough gall, if not hubris, to try to seek it out. Check back in a million years, before calling our present state of affairs stuck on the wrong side of a hump.

it's hard to see how humanity can evolve to have dramatic new powers
Wesly Crusher would be one example, the Traveler gave him guidance, but the ability to change was part of him prior to meeting the Traveler.

Miranda Jones is also an example of a advancement in Humanity, presuming that she would be able to pass the properties responsible for her mental abilities on to her descendants.

If humanity survives another million years and passes some kind of take-off point to become more than we are, that would be terrific. I wish we could know.

We can look back at hominids in the fossil record, but there's no record of the long term for a computer-enabled species. So yeah.

I always thought The Human Adventure is About to End would be a fantastic tagline to an apocalyptic Trek movie.

That does sound catchy. If it all took place in an alternate universe, they could even go through with it and not cop out with a reset button. "The End" could really be the end, like it was in Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970).

The Vulcan adventure sure hit a snag in JJ-town. :)
