I imagine it attracting two kinds of people:

(1) Those who like flaunting their money, such as young professional city workers, who enjoy trying to reconstruct a life reminiscent of the 19th century aristocracy. It's a bit of fun.

(2) People who are lonely or have had a difficult day, and who want 5 minutes of company. They'll spend that time with their bed warmer ranting about their day.

They should get a cat or dog. Dogs in particular - they won't get mad at you even if you've patted another dog!

When I'm cold and the wife isn't in bed (even sometimes when she is), a 100 lb chocolate Lab works nicely.

You can have too much of a good thing. I go to bed before the OH so I have the whole bed to myself. I wake up in the night after he has come to bed with 2 whippets a jack russell and a cat and find myself lying shaped like a swastika and squashed to the edge.

^It's a wonder they don't push you completely off the bed!

When the elder son was little we'd wake up and find him splayed smack in the middle and we'd be hanging onto a 19" wide sliver on the edge!

^^ New York and Tokyo both have multiple pet rental companies - you walk them or pet them or play with them in the pet parks. It would be kinder to volunteer at a local pet shelter to walk them and give them some lovin'. Who knows where the pets owned by pet rental companies end up anyway? Possibly pet shelters. You're right - that seems EVIL.

Yes and kids are like bloody furnaces too. Ours used to get into bed and I would have to get as far away from her as possible.

glad my kids are big now I'm older and my thermosatat is broken! The hubs and I used to play thermostat tag all winter - he'd turn the heat down - I'd turn it up! Now I turn it down and he's thrilled at how much $ we've saved on our heat/gas bill this winter!
