HR Giger dies after a fall. RIP.

One of sci-fi's most influential visionaries has died, after tripping and falling he sustained mortal injuries.

His work on the Alien movies must surely be one of the most iconic and most imitated set of designs in sci-fi movie history.

Very sad.He was a huge inspiration for me growing up after seeing Alien, and finding a copy of one of his books in a store. He's one of the reasons I'm such a huge fan of Lovecraft and weird art and stories in general. RIP good sir.

Agreed. Visually that movie looks absolutely flawless, and I can't imagine that creature or those designs will ever look dated.

Sad to hear he's gone now.

Very sad. Just picked up this new on the BBC site. To Trek fans, he was known as the influence behind the design of the Borg.

His Alien design was utter genius.

I'm less familiar with his art outside of the Alien design (I've seen some of it), but this is a sad loss. He was quite the visionary and will be missed.
