How would you reboot TNG?

• Chris Rock as Lt Worf. (This is one Klingon security officer who knows how to laugh)

• William Shatner as the Computer Voice (great way of crowbarring in the old dog, win some easy extra ratings with that richly textured voice of his, without overshadowing what is otherwise a stellar cast.)

• Joe Pesci as Counselor Troi
• Christopher Walken as the mysterious Dr. Crusher
• Mel Gibson as Nurse Ogawa
• Benicio del Toro as Wesley Crusher. (Sure he's an innocent lookin' child prodigy but is that persona really a ruse to hide his real nature as an evil genius determined to stitch up our crew at their most vulnerable time? Tune in to find out!) (Wesley will be the only character permitted to "break through the 4th wall")

Animate it. I always wanted to see an animated version of TNG. And I have always wanted to seen animated TNG long before The 2009 Reboot!

I prefer it be Anime style (Filmation version with extensive detail) instead of CGI. However, Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard looks interesting in CGI. I also want to see a Filmation-style TNG be cause back then the TOS animated show had to be "cartooned" be cause of violent protests against violence. But today's animation requirements aren't so harsh. The same actors could return as voice actors. Give it suspenseful music such as Seasons 1-4, 6 (Face Of The Enemy), etc.

And also animating it would avoid the constant "Rebooting" that happens all the time. If TNG ends up rebooted, (animated or live action) give it suspenseful music either way.

And perhaps tying up loose ends or whatever they call that phrase. Explain what all those Chief Engineers are doing, all the Navigators, Bring back Selar, but I am not sure which position, ... Perhaps give her the CMO job and give Beverly the Science Officer Job. (Selar being the science officer AND a vulcan would put an unfair stereotype.) Make the Science Officer position more prominent, make the Ship's Counselor / Adviser position less prominent, give Guinan many more appearances, and explain why Picard spoils Wesley so much. I would make Keiko a navigator, as originally intended.

"Deep Space Voyager The Next Generation" also sounds interesting. Actually it also sounds realistic.

TNG was pretty unique in being so optimistic and idealized and at times didactic, I doubt that could be made today (it was barely made then, a lot of the producers and writers being somewhat resentful of Roddenberry's confines).

If I was doing a new version, the main changes would probably be waiting much longer for Wesley to get to a bridge station, making more consistent that the Enterprise was on the frontier rather than often meeting other Federation ships and easily going back to Earth and have more consequences for when crewmembers disobeyed orders or admirals thought Picard's actions were wrong or backfired.

Rebooting TNG is the worst idea in the long, sad History of Bad Ideas! You can't capture lightning in a bottle a second time. With The Classic Series, it's different, obviously ... only so much Ham and Cheese. It's just crying out for a reboot, what with the atrocious overacting, the cardboard sets and primitive special effects.

I hate to break it to you, but there was plenty of bad acting in TNG.

The date is 2348. The crew:
* Captain Jean-Luc Picard (James McAvoy) - A veteran of the Stargazer, which is destroyed in a battle with a mysterious enemy in the first episode. He gets transferred onto the Enterprise-D - a state-of-the-line flagship of the Federation - and is tasked with exploring the fringes of the Federation, the Cardassian/Bajor/Ferengi sectors of space.
* diplomat Kyle Riker - Noted mediator from the Tholian conflicts, assigned by Starfleet JAG to keep an eye on Picard and make sure he doesn't go rogue or lose another command. His advisory position evolves into second-in-command of the vessel.
* Edward La Forge - former science officer onboard the Stargazer, who was blinded during the incident with the mysterious enemy. He has to adjust to living without eyesight (and a VISOR) while also transferring to the position of chief engineer.
* Ambassador Worf (Michael Dorn) - an elder Klingon statesman and retired general, Ambassador Worf tags along in the first mission as part of the Officer Exchange Program from their new allies in the Klingon Empire. He takes over tactical operations.
* Cadet Beverly Crusher - the 20-year-old pregnant widow of Jack Crusher (who died valiantly saving all hands aboard the Stargazer), this young medical student was on her way to study abroad when she got caught up in the events surrounding the launch of the Enterprise. Now she has to juggle her correspondence studies with the fact that she's the only person qualified to act as a medic onboard the Enterprise, as well as a growing attraction to Captain Picard, the best friend of her husband.
* Lieutenant Data - the first Android in Starfleet, Lieutenant Data helped design the Enterprise and the Galaxy Class Project in general. He is initially given first officer duty and is in charge of starship operations.

I wouldn't reboot it at all. I would revisit it though... Same characters, same ship, just different missions within the same timeframe -- after all, we only saw 178 episodes in 7 years time; that leaves a lot of room for adventures we didn't see.

Visually I'd keep the Galaxy Class shape, but have the surface details updated for whatever future television resolutions are around. Internally I'd change very little, but I would update the LCARS displays to make them more detailed, more interactive/animated, and reconfigurable. I'd show more areas of the ship, like stellar cartography to really showcase some of its advanced technologies.

I'd also reference Season Two and Three as the ideal timeframe to emulate. In my opinion, those seasons had the best mix of adventure, wonder, and fun. Season One was too campy and even ridiculous at times; and Season Four (even some of Three) began a precipitous slide into Trek that took itself much too seriously.

I consider Loud as a Whisper, Unnatural Selection, A Matter of Honor, Measure of a Man, Contagion, Time Squared, Pen Pals, Q Who, Up the Long Ladder, The Emissary, Peak Performance, Evolution, Who Watches the Watchers, Booby Trap, The Defector, The High Ground, Deja Q, The Offspring, Sins of the Father, Captain's Holiday, Tin Man, and Sarek to be some of the very best episodes in the entire franchise, and would love to see them as the basis for a revisiting of the series.

The show is actually a rebooted MU where Kirk never convinced the Federation to lay down their arms.

Captain Picard is the captain of the Warship Enterprise, tasked with subjugating new alien races into the Starfleet Empire. He quotes great historical conquerors to explain inherent human superiority. Commander Riker offers to spare women and their families in exchange for sex. Dr Crusher is a sociopathic medical researcher only interested in using people as rest subjects to develop biological weapons. Deanna Troi can telepathically torture. Data wants to learn from how to use human Machiavelian tactics from humans. Worf? Let's just say, Worf is Hanzee.

One humanoid Cat that evolved from Spot.
Data is demoted to toilet droid and goes mad after 3M years.

The way I would reboot it:

Well, I think it forgot it was "Star Trek: The Next Generation" not "Star Trek: In Name Only Since We're Trying to Basically Ignore the Original Series."

I think I would keep the Season 1 uniforms and add variants to the male kilts (or skants) by adding some sort of regulation shorts. Even if the uniforms evolved into something resembling the First Contact uniforms....we still will have the color-coded uniforms with variants for both men and women.

We may still see the Constitution-class vessels in some capacity. They may be slightly refitted like the Miranda-class...but they are still in use for smaller crews.

Tholians, Andorians, and Tellarites will make an appearance either in the background or as guest characters. At this point in time, they should be prominent not absent altogether from society. Not too mention, it would be interesting to see some non-humanoid aliens.

The background should be diverse in terms of showing different shades of human characters...as well as different ages.

All of our characters have faults, they are not self-righteous or arrogant (e.g. Picard, Riker). If they are, their adventures should make them a bit more humble.

Everyone should have a healthy sex life, including Geordi LaForge. His 'dick' shouldn't be metaphorically cut off. Not too mention, it would be interesting to see him take command for more than one episode and also see him handle himself in hand to hand combat.

Tasha Yar should also be given command of the ship - Enterprise - or a command of a ship when the need arises. While we see her vulnerable at times (i.e. femininity isn't a sign of weakness) she should be tough, strong at times especially when there are subordinates or civilians depending on her and she has to lead by example.

Wesley should be Leslie, a girl. And she shouldn't automatically be paired up with a love interest because she is a woman. Too, she should be clever. If she is very intelligent shouldn't be an annoying character and hold it above everyone else's head.

Deanna should be more upfront about her relationship with Will Riker, as should Riker to Deanna. He seemed to get upset when guys where interested in dating her but we would see nothing when he was in relationships with other women.

The Romulans looked hideous as did their uniforms. I would like to see something that builds on what we saw in the classic series. The Romulans, like the Vulcans, were exotic and mysterious. It was interesting seeing a blond Romulan, Nero's wife, in the 2009 film.

Speaking of the Vulcans: Not all of the Vulcans should have a bowl cut, especially since it looked silly on some actors portraying Vulcans or just plain boring. Xon, in TMP, actually was going to be a curly haired Vulcan. And Tim Russ probably would have looked silly with a bowl cut wig so he was left with his naturally-receding-hairline look.

Lorine Mendell was known as 'Ensign Redhead' in some parts of fandom. She was the very attractive redhead in the yellow skirt & boots uniform, and turned up in practically every episode in the first season. I would like her to be a sort of 'Lt. Leslie' of TNG...

I want to see more planets like Ligon II and more technologically advanced and possibly very independent, not needing to join the Federation.

Add to that the fact that I feel reboots are bland, uninspired and generally doomed to failure from the get-go. I absolutely hate reboots. Why re-do a sequel show? Why bother? You are not going to do it as well as Stewart/Spiner/Frakes etc etc did.

To be honest, most of the ideas touted here sound awful to me. No offens to any posters but...TNG was brilliant, it doesn't NEED recreating.

Leave the classics alone and actually create new legends. [Part of why I hate JJ-Trek as well.]

Not all reboots are bland, uninspired or doomed to failure. There have been some cases where reboots/sequels that have done pretty well (e.g. Creed, Daniel Craig's era as Jame Bond, the new Doctor Who - at least when it first started - and others that aren't currently at the top of my head).

I do feel TNG may get rebooted in some way (either as a full on reboot or cameo piece) in the future to appeal to the masses. Yes, there will be those who will want to stage a boycott or protest, but it will happen. Now, if it actually succeeds depends on the writers as well as the directors.

I feel new legends are already being paved with the nuTOS crew. I personally wouldn't mind seeing the TNG shaken up and brought up to date, since I personally find the original TNG quite boring - of course, there are those who like everything the way it is.

Sidenote: While I love the Christopher Reeves films, I realize now that they are indeed dated. I didn't exactly like Man of Steel overall. I felt that Henry Cavill was really bland as Superman and the story was all over the place. However, there may be an actor and writer and director who actually captures what I personally felt when I first saw those films with Christopher Reeves, albeit with something extra so it appeals to the modern audiences.

Like Batman and Spider-Man, there are going to be different interpretations of the characters; some will fail and some will succeed. The same with Star Trek. I'm sure we're going to see different interpretations of Kirk, Spock, Uhura, McCoy, Picard, Riker, Data, Sisko, Janeway, etc....depending who is the 'it producer' at the moment.

Some said TOS would never work as an update. Well, here we are with a third film coming out in 2016.

Conceptually, it would be hard to duplicate Gene's early influence on STNG. It's even harder today because of the "grittines" of most shows today. STNG will remain unique as the evolved future vision of TOS.

I think the appeal of the new movies has been that the first showed the genesis of the crew. I would love a show which examined the growth of students to crew members. It could make for an interesting series.

True but they left out Number One and Yeoman Colt. No mention of them ever again. Not in the original movies, and not in the reboot movies. I guess as far as Number One is concerned, she was only created for Majel Barrett. When she got new roles such as a computer voice, Christine Chapel, and L'Waxana Troi, they just did not care about the character Number One. But if they are going to keep doing reboot movies, themn they meed to include characters such as Number One, and Yeoman Colt! preferrably NOT killing them off. Admiral Colt. Ambassador Number One. It has a nice ring to it.
