How would you make the next "Superman" movie?

In all fairness, Cain's suit was skintight spandex, and Routh's was less form-fitting neoprene. So of course Cain appeared more muscular in his suit. Rest assure, Routh was a lot more toned and muscular.

I will concede in that image Cain looks bigger. I think Routh's suit looks really subpar too in comparison to those other suits. The light blue and maroon red was not a good mix.
I hated Dean Cain's Superman suit but liked his Clark Kent and how he acted as Superman...he WAS Superman until that series jumped the shark when they got together and started doing weird things. The Returns suit grew on me...I don't like the small S SHeild and Action Comics adapted a version of it when Geoff Johns took over the book with Richard Donner and Adam Kubert drew him.
I actually like the Last Son version better. The reds are brighter and pronounced and the blue is bold and sharp. Exactly like Superman is suppose to look like.
Exactly. Routh is also three inches taller than Cain. I'm not a big supporter of Routh's in the role. I thought he was a decent Superman and a mediocre Clark Kent, and I'm for a total reboot with Routh being replaced, but all around he's the biggest guy to ever play the part, even though the design of the suit didn't make that clear on screen.

And all I can do is rephrase what I said when we got into the casting thing. I want to see a guy that looks like a Superman. There's a reason his original costume is reminiscent of circus strongman outfit with a cape. He should look like a circus strongman in a cape. I want to see that, just once!

No, the studio should bring Routh back as Superman.
Do you want an actor who looks enough like Superman (or looks enough like Christopher Reeve)? Do you also want someone who is at least 6'2" and can build himself up to at least 200 lbs? Well, such actors do not grow on trees. Bryan Singer selected the right actor last time. Looking forward, Routh shouldn't be made to pay for whatever was wrong with Superman Returns. The studio should spare itself another needless talent search. It would just further delay the next film.
NONE of those options. Stay true to the ideals and ides of the first film, but don't fall into the corniness of later ones, and the pointless showiness of SR.
No. That's actually part of my problem. I want someone that looks like George Reeves without the padding.
How about someone 6'2" that starts out at about 300 pounds of cut muscle? The fact that Routh "built up" to be smaller than me doesn't impress me.
I just think it would be nice if casting directors would look for once.
If they're willing to get an actual Superman, I'm not in a hurry.
I'm sure you would have dismissed Christopher Reeve and cast professional wrestler Gorilla Monsoon as Superman in 1977.
Keep Routh. He's a decent Superman but an Amazing Clark Kent.
Luthor is still a Villain, but not the main focus, much like in Superman II. Luthor is too active as a Villain in the series, he's never working behind the scenes. Why can't we have greater powers fighting Superman, only to find that Luthor's been involved since the beginning? Meanwhile, have Superman fighting a real threat.
Granted, it's Superman. You don't watch a Superman movie for super fights, but his Super feats. Which is why the first film worked so well. I mean, that bit with the train? Amazing! Superman Returns got that one right too.
What we need is a movie that showcases everything that makes him Superman. One that appeals to the best in all of us.
Remember in Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, when he's talking about why he couldn't just tell people the truth about Luthor, and why he has to let them make these decisions on their own? That's what I want to see played up. Or how he can do just about anything, but won't... Let's see why.
I don't want Singer. Not because I didn't like Superman Returns (I liked it alot, actually) but because I do want somebody new. Actually, somebody who probably hasn't made a lot of movies. In their late twenties or early thirties.

If I thought Gorilla Monson could act, I might have considered it.
Oh and I would now cast Zooey Deschanel as my Lois Lane. I think she can bring some new dimension to the character that the previous films have lacked...the Lois and Clark/Smallville/post crisis headstrong Lois Lane. I don't think the Superman movies did a good job at portraying this, they just made her a snob towards Clark. There was barely any time at devoloping the frienship between them or professional rivary. In the films it was all about Superman...and granted its' a movie about Superman if you're going to include Clark Kent develop him further than just having him be a "mask" for Superman. Clark is the dominant persona in this case not like where Bruce Wayne is a persona for Batman.
Oh boy, and maybe we can work something about a Trade Federation and tariffs in there... fun stuff!
I agree with those who say a rebooted "Golden Age"-influenced Superman and a stylized 1950s vision would be a great way to go. Fedoras, telephone operators and rocket ships. I just watched JLA: New Frontier so that might be influencing my thought processes at the moment but I like that kind of thing.

Hmm. Seems intriguing. At this point though if the Wachowski's were involved I would want them to direct. Maybe not write, but I really enjoyed Speed Racer which had a fantastic blend of heart, lightness and fun. That's what a Superman movie needs. I'm not sure if McTeigue could bring that but who knows, maybe that's because I've never seen a light film from him. I mean Speed Racer was almost a first in terms of tone from their previous work. So who knows.
