How would you like the Daleks to look after Asylam of the Daleks?

What? It makes no sense? I'm fine with generic pulp names (like Deadly Assassin). I think Face of Evil was one of the most creative names ever (it would require spoilers to explain why). But City of Death is a meaningless title that explains nothing while coming off as extremely cliche.

Well the name's better than "the girl who waited" or "Amys choice". Stupid names.
What is stupid about those names? I'd like you to expand on that a bit.
They're just so feeble, so pathetic, Not at all interesting eigther. "The city of death" is a menacing name which then interests you to watch it, while "Amys choice", would make you think, "it's just annother episode about a ginger girl", and you pass on that. "Earthshock" Is an interesting name because it's gripping, and you think to yourself "hmm, sounds good, might watch this", while "the girl who waited" is a deppressing name.

Don't tell me, you were on of those comic book fans in the 90s who lapped up any book with "death" or "blood" in the title.

"Choice" is just as interesting and intriguing a word as "shock." "The Girl Who Waited" is very intriguing as well. Who is this girl? Why is she waiting? Who or what is she waiting for?

It's also possible to watch the episode and understand the title. I'm still waiting for someone to explain City of Death.

As I recall, City of Death was originally meant to be called The Gamble of Time, since the original story was set in a casino. When the casino was dropped it was felt The Gamble of Time was no longer an appropriate title. I'm not entirely clear as to why City of Death was chosen in its place.

Its simple really. The primary audience in those days was young teenaged boys. They needed a title to 'sex up' the episode. Its the same reason most titles started withthings like "Invasion of...", "Curse of...", "....Death", "...of Doom".

Actully, I didn't read comics in the 90s, but I probably would have if I did.

The point is, the cityof death is such a better title. Can we agree it was better than "the girl who wated" or "amys choice"? For the record, I've not even seen it.

I don't see we can agree, no.

I understand that some people, you included apparently, feel all excited when they see titles which include words like "death", "blood", "doom" or "kill", but I'd say that most people would rather have a title that fits the story.

If by "better" you mean "completely generic". In fact, just for fun try working out how many other DW stories you could use the title on.

I agree, but that's what makes it twice as stupid. I'll compare it with two other titles to demonstrate why:

The Deadly Assassin - Just as pulpy. But it at least makes sense. The Master is killing people, making him a deadly assassin. The same could be said of Robots of Death or anything like that.

The Face of Evil - IMO, one of the most brilliant Doctor Who titles ever. It sounds like a pulp title that means nothing. Then it is revealed that the Doctor is the face of evil, which gives it a much deeper meaning.

City of Death - does anyone actually even die besides the bad guy? Even so, the title makes it sound like the city is the antagonist. I know the British have a thing against the French, but I like to believe that wasn't the point ;)

Of course, by definition all Assassins are Deadly, so it's like calling the story "The Killing Killer"...

I give up. besides, I made this thread so we'd talk about what you want the daleks to look like, but now it's turned into an argument about titles.
