It wouldn't bother me. but this is not the mirror universe, at least not the one shown in TOS & ENT
Nah, it pretty clearly is.It’s not the Prime universe either. At least not the one shown in TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9 & ENT!![]()
That means there's a Kirk and crew stuck somewhere in the Spock's Brain universe. Moment of silence.sometimes even different episodes of the exact same serie
Exactly so. This whole discussion about whether it is prime or not seems pretty redundant to me, when Star Trek has never really presented a coherent and plausible universe in the first place. I have no problem making it all fit in my head, but I don't pretend TOS/TNG/DS9/VOY and ENT are somehow more internally consistent with one another than Discovery and the other shows. It's somewhat silly, in my opinion, to say this has to be another fictional universe, because it looks different, presents some of the details differently and feels a little darker. Add to that the fact that the creators are confirming its setting in the same universe as the previous shows and I don't see why this is still being discussed. But oh well, Trekkies will be Trekkies, I guess. It's all good. There are enough discrepancies throughout the hundreds of hours of Trek that we may as well say that there's a separate universe for every series and every movie, and sometimes even different episodes of the exact same series!
But is the show itself enjoyable in its own right? That's what I prefer to focus on.

One think Trek has been pretty consistent about is the looks of different eras. When we have seen time travel, flashbacks or holodeck recreations of previous eras it has always pretty much looked the same as it did when that era was portrayed the first time. This is really not the case with Discovery, and many would say for understandable reasons, but nevertheless this what makes this different.Exactly so. That was going to be my answer! We'd have a heroic Michael, Klingons that can speak English, Phillipa would be alive, Saru would be short and red, Stamets would be cooking mushrooms in the kitchen for a bright eyed Lorca. Tilly would be a snob.Relieved.
Oops, I would be disgusted if it is revealed as Mirror verse. Or JJ verse.

As I've said before, Trek canon is a mythos, and I think it's okay to depart from it at times because mythology is full of stories which partially conflict.
That said, IMHO you need to have a damn good reason to depart from canon, otherwise the work hardly seems worth it. The Klingon redesign is a great example. Lots of thought and money went into it, and the execution is pretty effin awful.
This seems to be the big new theory and I was wondering if it would impact how you see the show?
Although it will be like Lost all over again. So they were in purgatory all this time after all!![]()
