How would I write a formal email?

^All right.

But if you don't mind, I would rather you didn't use that particular version of my username.

^No, I really must object to that as well.

If I was a younger guy, it might be okay. But I just turned forty-one--and at my age, that's just creepy.

Well, I appreciate the fact that you've been nice, and I hope you'll continue.

I wouldn't want this to turn into something nasty.

And including your full name and address may inspire them to send you a written response...and maybe, just maybe, a little somethin' for the effort (even if it just turns out to be a catalog).

Indeed, good things come to those that write :bolian:

How do you guys feel about the language changing due to a lack of education? We're losing words left and right. For example, "forums" is now acceptable in place of "fora". In fact, as I type this, spell check ACCEPTS "forums" and kicks back "fora".

That's just crazy.

From what I understand, it's pretty much inevitable.

Languages just have a tendency to become simpler over time. English has already lost the second-person singular, as I pointed out above. The loss of Latin declensions like "fora" in place of "forums" would seem like an obvious next step.

It's horrible, just horrible, all those people that can't spell that I've been laughing at the last three decades are now the ones that spell it right

There is an infamous case where a missing comma in a legal agreement cost a company millions of dollars because a clause that was meant to exclude something included it instead.
Would there be a Wiki article about this, do you know? I'd be interested to read the details, and chuckle.

I'm reminded of this "Cracked" article: http://www.cracked.com/article_17408_15-words-you-wont-believe-they-added-dictionary.html

The continuing lowering of literacy standards is pretty alarming. That said, "forums" doesn't bother me. English isn't Latin and -s is a correct way of forming a plural; I'm good with both "fora" and "forums."

^And I'm sure a lot of these spelling and usage problems have come about as a result of text messaging and chatrooms, and the like. I'm disgusted by it, and it;s apparently gotten so bad that teachers are now reminding students not to use it in their essays. My english teacher told me that 3 students ended up failing the final exam last year (80 % of the points come from the 4 essays you write for it), because they used b/c, w/, LOL, and idk constantly. One of them even used smilies like "=)" "=(" and "XD" in their writing...:wtf:
